I’m not clear on this.
Do you want the pictures from both cams live mixed on each screen at the same time or will it be 2 separate setups in different areas? (one cam+one laptop displayed on one projector).Most important – Are you working with DV, HDV or HD?
and what signal are you feeding the projectors (composite, s-video, component, dvi) ? -

I personally think all of these other shows realized that there’s really no need for any other trade show than NAB in the States. I also believe most of the companies who were on the show floors realized this too. “
Precisely, NAB had a good thing and a lot of up and comers came along and saturated the market.

NAB will most definitely shrink in size, but it is the one show that “if I can only go to one show this year” it’s going to be NAB. There’s nothing else like it (except IBC) where you can truly see just about everything in one location. “I was just looking at the stats on nab attendance for 2007 and it is about 108,000, about the same as when I last attended in 2000.
Since the early days of the acceptance of computers into the video editing environment the market has changed immensely. Every Joe Blow who has been laid off a the local TV station has a FCS and is competing in the same market place. The 400 or so movies in production has to compete for it’s market share of viewers who are now producing their own content (docs, shorts,youtube etc.) The masses are less and less content to watch make believe action movies for entertainment and are focusing more and more on real world issues that confront us daily.
I think Avid like a lot of companies just has to tighten it’s belt. Most companies traditionally did NAB AND road shows. Road shows are nothing new for anyone. I think Avid should have just scaled down their booth but continued a presence at NAB.

4:3 is also the ratio for 70mm Imax. If/when they ever go to digital projection they will probably create a whole new 4:3 HD spec.

The Sony probe for this monitor is the BKM-14L. There are several others available from companies like Barco, Minolta etc. that plug right into the front of the monitor and work through the menu system also.
Make sure you are not too near flourescent overhead lighting that produces a green tint or green walls etc. Warm up the monitor for 1/2 hour and try with the lights off or dimmed.

It’s a toughy, no sense going low end hdv because they are too close in cost to not just get a second hvx200. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one of these just to keep in my bag for back up. They are $1600.00 street price.
Panasonic HDC-SD1 AVCHD
It’s more of a consumer camera with the gop style avc codec but the price is right, it’s small and they are supposed to produce a decent image too. uses 3 – 1/4″ ccd’s and sd memory cards. I think people are getting away with less these days as in there seems to be a lot of people resurecting footage from dvd’s and re-editing it into programs so you should be able to sneak a clip of this in here or there.
I will add that I have never touched one of these cams or seen footage from one 1st hand so a person would need to feel it out themselves.

Interesting, it would seem the original tapes were dvcam and they were laid back to ntsc dv would more than likely be the answer although Caropillar should have ended up with 6 tapes from 4 dvcam originals unless they were not full tapes.

Hey! This is interesting. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the OIS setting. Remember the Shake Rattle and Roll issues particuarly with the 1st gen cams?

Couldn’t find my old manual but this from wikipedia
{The tape speed is 3.335 cm/s for NTSC, 2.339 cm/s for PAL. A cassette holds a maximum of about 430 m of tape at the lowest acceptable tape thickness, giving a maximum playing time of about 3.5 hours for NTSC and 5 hours for PAL at “standard” (SP) quality}
They basically are saying if you have a cassette tape of a given size you will get 30% more pal on it than ntsc. This is regarding vhs tape but I don’t see why a similar scenario wouldn’t exist for dv cassettes.
