Do you mean HDV? If so, export timeline HDV to tape and use your camera/vcr to downconvert to SD 4:3 on a SD VCR or camera (or back to timeline).

Don’t misunderstand me, conforming is a pain in the neck. I would guess it was introduced to overcome audio rendering that was sometimes necessary in earlier versions. If I’m not mistaken we will see audio rendering die a natural (or unnatural) death in the very next version. I think conforming was introduced to assist with audio monitoring – rendering was a post edit performer.

Sorry, I missed the point, however, you cant use Prem Pro as a reference monitor for anything. At best it’s a guide and can use any number of resolutions at will, depending on the footage. All serious or commercial work needs an external reference monitor, hopefully with a multi input capability so you can compare DVD, DV, VHS etc apple for apple.

All computer monitors are notoriously different. Have you tried lining up your computer monitor with a calibrated external monitor?

    Kevin & Laurie,
The common link here is that you both use “capture cards”. Prem Pro is designed around firewire and it’s well documented that most third party capture card suppliers are challenged by driver development, particularly Canopus. Decklink is new to Prem Pro and hopefully they will improve but Canopus has given up driver development and gone home. Normally this wouldn’t matter too much, particularly with DV, but now HDV has hit the scene capture cards are again in focus.
Maybe Prem Pro v2 will have some answers.

Not much info here. What format were you capturing? What are the computer specs? What were you capturing from?
If it’s a normal sort of capture we all know Prem Pro does it well. Have you approached Black Magic to find out the limitations of their card? Are you trying to capture HDV? Have you got the right BM driver?

The P4C800 is an excellent board with Prem Pro and Matrox and many people on this forum have that board. Mine has sailed along fine for nearly two years. I’ve got 4Gb of Corsair on board.

Or if the still has enough resolution simply crop it with the motion filter.

Transitions shouldn’t be affected by ratio. I guess your project settings and clips are all 16:9? Stills work just about in any size so ratio shouldn’t be a challenge there.
Are you using Adobe transitions or a plug-in like Hollywood FX?

Craig, I endorse your method. Far more intuitive and creative for old hands and “no more gaps”. Sounds like a television commercial I once made.
