July 15, 2011 at 10:50 pm in reply to: WOW – Apple promotes how to switch from imovie to FCPI stand corrected on iMovie11 being 64bit.
I skipped iMovie11. I still have iMovie09 on my MBP, it definitely has keyword (the key button), filter by keyword, favorites, reject clip etc. E.g. Marking a keyword will show a blue line in the event window. The way to tag your media might not support high volume nor sophisticated, but again, concept was there.
If you migrate iMovie events to FCP X, the iMovie keyword will be migrated as a keyword collection in FCP X events.
FCP X has an *enhanced way* of managing (auto) tagging smart collection, keyword collection, folders in events, better search/filter. But hey it has been a 4 years since iMovie08 and FCP X has pro stamped on it.
Some comments here have been that it is the “new way” of organizing media but for ex-iMovie users like me, “metadata way” is not that revolutionary (FCP X is an upgraded version) 🙂 FCP X has better tools / functions to help you managing meta data.
Other things like precision editor, inspector also rings a bell. iMovie timeline is sort of “magnetic” as well (of course with a lot less complexity).

What does it say on the summary tab? 1280X720?
How about if you send it to compressor from the advanced tab? (What does it say in Compressor’s inspector?)—

July 15, 2011 at 4:58 pm in reply to: WOW – Apple promotes how to switch from imovie to FCPTo an iMovie09 user + beginner FCP7 consumer user myself, FCP X obviously got its DNA from iMovie.
Events, projects/folders, timeline, metadata (keyword, favorites) were all there in iMovie and I believe iMovie11 is 64bit.
Only thing that I missed from iMovie was the “maps and places”. If somehow Motion 5 have maps built in!
May be to assist iMovie migration, most/all of the iMovie generators / effects / text are present in FCP X where are FCP “classic” generators are not (bars for example).

What does it say in the inspector for your project?
If your project is 1080p, then bluray video format should say 1920×1080.

I have had a similar experience.
Tried a 1 minute clip, nothing fancy. Tried a few lower thirds, made some parameter changes, tried undo. Color beach ball came up around the 7th undo.
Forced quit FCP X, lost all my events and the project.
Restarted mac, run FCP X. Everything back to normal again.
Looks like FCP X go stuck undoing one of the lower thirds (that I have tried).
I think basically unlimited undo is not supported, better to duplicate projects (versions) to make sure you have a version to roll back to.

July 14, 2011 at 10:45 am in reply to: Viewing selected ‘range’. Or view in to out in viewerAs Brendan says, Shift-I, Shift-O moves the playhead to In / Out points.
But pressing “/” will play from the In point. The right section has to be highlighted. i.e. if you want to play in Event (cmd+1), Timeline (cmd+3).

July 14, 2011 at 10:39 am in reply to: Viewing selected ‘range’. Or view in to out in viewerIf it is on the timeline, you can use either the range selection tool (“R”) or define precisely using “I” and “O” keys in the timeline.
Pressing “/” plays back the range.

Not sure if this answers your question.
1. Select the transition (e.g. Cross Fade)
2. Go to the inspector
3. Under transition, there is a group called “Audio Crossfade” in which you can select the Fade in Type and Fade out Type to different curves as you need. Default is +3db.—

1. Select in / out points in the event viewer.
2. Press “/” to playback (it will automatically play from beginning of the range to the end)
3. Cmd+L to toggle looping (or View menu > Playback > Loop Playback)—
