I think Apple may have made more money than if they just released FCP8.

The upgrade price from FCP2 to FCP3 was USD$300 (if my memory serves me right) vs. USD$400 (FCP X + Motion + Compressor).

Population buying new FCP is assumed bigger (basically your FCP Express guys + imovie guys + pros trying it out). It sounded like most pros on the COW forum have one copy to play with.

Conclusion is that money wise, FCP X is going to in fact increase revenue. The mass exodus of pro may or may not hit the bottom line after a few quarters.

That did not work.

The events are calendar based.

I created a new event, selected the event.
When I select “Import” >> “iMovies Event Library”, FCP X starts the import process and put all events to my local drive.

Your advice worked when I imported *Files* but importing iMovie events did not work.
If you context click the event, only import files menu shows up.

What I have is this:

Local Drive
>> Year (2011)
>> Event (You can rename this)
>> Folder, Keyword Collection, Smart collection
External Drive
>> Year (2011)
>> Event (You can rename this) (–> I selected this event)
>> Folder, Keyword Collection, Smart collection

How do you drag a compound clip to another project?

Structure:

Project A
>> Compound clip of 3 clips
Project B
>> Primary / Secondary Story Line

If I follow the Ripple training method, you can go to Project A, copy compound clip and go to Project B and paste where you’d like it to be.

There is one issue. changes in Project A does not reflect in Project B. Basically I am only making a copy. I would like to link to avoid crazy long timelines in one project.

Any ideas on how FCP X compound clip / project is designed to work?

A follow up question for importing imovie 09 projects / events to FCP X.

Can you specify the destination of the import?

I could only import events and projects to the local drive.
I even right click on the external drive >> import. The resulting events / projects would sit on my local drive.

I would like to import my old imovie 09 projects and events to FCP X but stored on an external drive.

Any ideas?

I have experienced once where I have lost titles / effects applied to a short 2 minute clip.

What I did: added titles / effects and made timeline into a compound clip. Nothing crashed, I exited “normally”

Result: When I re-opened the project, titles / effects were missing.

With FCP 7, if you save, you are sure to have your project saved without any data loss.
With FCP X, I am still not sure whether to trust it or not.

There were also some odd occasions where titles required re-rendering even though I have not changed it.

Using keyframes + crop also works (i.e. show character one by one) but again, I am unsure if this is the best way…
