You need to download the XDCAM transfer package from Sony. The package includes the FAM (file access mode) driver for Mac and PC. The Sony name is PDZKP1 and may be found at https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software-model-PDZKP1.aspx.

You may be disappointed. My experience is you can only put data in the General subdirectory of a fomatted disc. My testing hits the limit at 500 MB. Useful for scripts and other supporting files.
We have 5 U1s to support our PDW-355, two PDW-700s, two PDW-F75s, and a PDW-1500. We use a Windows laptop and the U1 write driver to rename disks in Windows Explorer prior to XDCAM transfer into Final Cut. Otherwise all your reel names are “XDCAM disc.” The Windows U1 utility will format a disc and create Sony’s standard XDCAM HD directories.
I cannot remember from NAB any promises by Sony regarding XDCAM discs as raw data discs. Elegant solution if it ever delivers. I hope this answers your concern.

Ken Stone’s site has a great article on You Tube encoding with Compressor presets.

Have you read this post on the AJA Kona forum? The 6.0.1 drivers may be your solution.Ray

September 23, 2008 at 12:46 pm in reply to: Kona / FCP Batch Capture wont stop! Stop my tape!1. I did not lose anything downgrading. My presets remained intact. I used the uninstaller located in the AJA application folder.
2. I can only quote the AJA web site regarding the Adobe plugin. “This software works only with KONA LSe/LS, KONA LHe/LH, and KONA 3/3X and requires minimum version 6 KONA driver software to use.” I would say that the 5.1 drivers are not compatible. However, I am not AJA support.

September 22, 2008 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Kona / FCP Batch Capture wont stop! Stop my tape!A call to Aja support confirmed that this is an issue with the current 6.0 drivers and a driver downgrade was recommended. The easy setups are not being written correctly. The driver downgrade solved my problem.

If a F70 is like a PDW-F75, then the Reference Select is set to synchronize to the HDSDI input. You should send the same external reference signal going to your Kona card to the F70 Ref Video input and change to menu item (under Video Control on the F75). You have a nice little feedback loop going on. The Kona 3 manual has instructions for dealing with external reference video with or without a breakout box.
I would also ask, why not XDCam Transfer?

Thank you Stephen, way above the call. I agreed to a pro bono edit for a non-profit organization and needed to quickly learn Motion for this effect. Did not know it was coming. You have my profound thanks. Maybe one day I can return the favor. I realize the Cow gets a lot of the same basic questions, and it can be a pain to read and respond to them. I’ll buy you Starbucks at the next NAB.

That is EXACTLY the idea. Thank you for taking the time to do that. Could you share with me the process or email me the Motion project file so I can reverse engineer?
