PDW-U1. Do I have the wrong idea?
So I picked up a PDW-U1 drive to go with our EX-1. My understanding was that, once Sony released the Mac software / firmware upgrade, that I’d be able to write data to XDCAM discs using this drive. That was a big factor in choosing the EX camera, since I have the need to archive footage.
Here we are, apparently still without any Mac write capability, so I have a drive and a pack of discs that are worthless unless I can archive to ’em. Has anyone heard of when this deck could be useful for a person running Final Cut Studio? At this point I can’t even format a disc, much less write anything to it.
One other question I have is whether I’ll simply be able to dump footage to this deck or if I’ll be able to back up data to it. I’d seen posts here and there that led me to believe that I can back up data other than XDCAM footage on the discs; however, if all I can do is stuff raw footage on them, that’s not a deal breaker. I’m just having a hard time getting any solid information anywhere.
Thanks,
Cf
