I cracked open the camera case and cleaned the Scanner, Drum, Head or whatever you want to call it.
It was dirty and I got a lot of oxide off of it.Before I cleaned it, it was failing every 2-3 minutes with an RF alarm. After cleaning, I have been able to run an entire tape through it three times now without an error.
Life is good.
Thanks John,

Sean,
Were you able to determine what was going on?

I always suspect monitors.
Can you check this with a second monitor or
Does this noise get recorded on tape where if you pause on playback the noise doesn’t move?I am interested to hear what you find out.

Rodrigo,
We also have the EC3 and it is extremely handy when we do aerials in a helicopter. We rent the Tyler nose mount and the Varicam is actually outside the helicopter. We use the EC3 to shade the iris, paint, and to press record. It also offers feedback as to the status of the camera. The 30 meter cable was a part that we ordered through our Panasonic Vendor. About $250 US.
Have you seen the Clarity Varispeed for the Varicam? It is really cool to work with.

John,
Thanks for the post. Maybe I should describe my challenge and why I think a tri-level sync generator might help.
In our HD suite, we have the FCP 4.5 and the 1200A using the firewire path to and from the 1200A but monitoring via the analog HD on the output of the 1200A.
We have two challenges
1) We don’t have the HD-SDI card for the 1200A. It is ordered and it should be here in a few weeks.
2)When we layback to tape, the analog output will take a sync hit and flash or jump every few seconds.
We don’t have a master sync generator other than a Black Burst Generator, and it is my hope that if we reference the deck and the Black majic Deck link with tri-level sync, that we might not experience the problem.I posted this on the Cow in the FCP forum, however it really is a Panasonic HD100 question.

Hello Joe.
We need to get together and share Varicam experiences. I too am in Phoenix, AZ and we have had the Varicam for over two years now. I am often asked where someone can get a Varicam in Phoenix and we cannot rent ours out.Give me a call or send me an email.

Yes, Bob, the 1200A will do assemble edits.
If it doesn’t, take out a gun and shoot it.(Inside joke for old AVID L’rs)

It all depends on the vendor but yes I have been able to get deals on software and hardware on the NAB floor. I have seen up to 15% off of some hardware and deals on software packages.
