I live in Arizona and we shoot with the Varicam.
On bad days I will take a white cloth and soak it in water. Then wring it out and place it over the top of the camera. As the water evaporates, the camera gets cooler.
The direct sunlight is the real killer. I will take a golf umbrella and attached it to a pan handle of my tripod. It kept the camera in the shade even when I when I would pan the camera.

To quote Pat Brown, that depends.
RF Drop outs are due to a reflective or bounced signal arriving 180 degrees out of phase as the primary. A positive sine wave plus a negative sine wave of equal value when combined equals zero. When dealing with UHF RF signals, moving the antenna a few inches will cause the problem to go away. That is why a true diversity receiver has two antennas just a few inches apart. The receiver looks at both antennas and determines which has the better signal.
In your case, with two non-diversity receivers, both are going to experience drop outs but not likely at the same time. That is unless both are tied to the same receiving antenna.

This has been tried by eveyone that uses wireless microphones.

You can do it the other way around. Multiple receivers with one transmitter but never the way you suggested.

We did not do a side by side comparison but we did purchase the HDX900 and it really impresses me.
We also have a Varicam and the HDX900 made the choice of a second camera easy.
There are quite a few posts regarding the HDX900 on the Varicam Cow forum.

I just got a note back from Michael and he confirmed that the Sony HD event at NAB will be held on Monday night.

When we got our HDX900, I wired up a short XLR Female to XLR Male cable. The male end had the four pin and the female end had the standard XLR 3 pin.
We then used our standard Sennheiser shotgun mic “on Camera”.

I agree with Ty. We do this all the time with up to 24 live mics. We use three of the 8 channel Shure automated mic mixers. It works well with our application. It allows us to EQ and set the “Gate” for each mic.

Tip**
If you are doing ANY live PA support at the same time, make sure that all the mics are the same make and model. If not, you will be chasing your tail with different “colored” or sounding mics.
