September 17, 2009 at 8:48 am in reply to: XDCAM Transfer and Log Plugin ? Codec same as TRansfer 2.8

It looks like the Nattress plugins also work for FCS3. The now have more color plugins. Would the plugin you reccommended be in the big box or color.

The reason for in place prores 422 conversion is the size ratio of mp4 to pro res 422 is at least 1:3 and when shooting a 10 to 1 ratio of shoot to final edit this is significant

I have a documentary thats 500GB mp4 and in pro res 422 its 2 TB

  • Thaks for the info however I have Boris Continium Complete and have bee loking thru their 342 filters. Any clue as to the best choice in BCC complete that is close to Nattress “Chroma Smooth/Sharpen”,
    Thanks

  • I guess it makes sense to capture with intensity or AJA kona realtime to add the empty 4:2:0 with 4:2:2 but with hundreds of clips some of whic you want to keep and others pitched this would require a lot of labor. I dont understand why the 2.8 FCP import would be faster then the log and transfer is doing the same thing rewrapping. I noticed the export to MOV also keeps the XDCAM format and I tried it in Toast titanium 9 with blu-ray plugin and it transcoded to blue-ray format (still dont think its h.264 as it took a couple of hours for 40 minutes. I guess I would like to transcode rought cut clips on timeline to pro res 422 HQ then reimport for compositing then export to squeeze to parallel process to h.264 for import into adobe encore for blu ray authoring. I did not understand the chroma filter issue. I thought that going from 4:2:0 XDCAM EX to pro res 4:2:2 would just fill with empty space and the advantage was that math operations for video effect would have better rounding properties so you could get up to 3 streams ( I guess 5 is the limit for 4:2:2 8 bit. You can also get a bit more by capturing to 10 bit but I heard its not worth the additional storage.) Can you forward me compressor settings for XDCAM EX to Pro Res 422 HQ transcode in compressor?

    Thanks

December 21, 2008 at 2:28 am in reply to: Nvidia 8800 GT and installing FCS 2.0 error

I finally got it working by installing Leopard graphics update on a 10.5.2 machine then installing all updates from Apple except OSX 10.5.6. I swear I did this before and it didnt work. But now it does then after install I installed 2 more apple updates except 10.5.6 OSX. I am about to install Kona Card. The issue I had was the 0 Vram which I have seen a bunch of times on different cards erroneosly. I want to know how to workaround this check somehow as it seems to pop up more then it should. If the K?ona installfails I will repost but I dont expect this is a related issue, although I need to make sure of which version of AJA software as 2.8 just added pro res HD capture but might not work with 10.5.2, When I upgrade to 10.5.3 I get the same 0Vram error so mu upgrade path is blocked for now.

I am at 10.5.2 on intel mac pro. When I do all updates except OSX 10.5.6 I get the pro app update 2007-1. Then there is a second round after this update from apple to update everthing in FCS except FCP which stays at 6.00. I downloaded a torrent with FCP 6.0.2 update and it installed all the fcpre files for FCP but hen I start the XDCAM transfer 2.7 or 2.8 it says XDCAM EX codecs missing and I get the white screen when playing file. I also found that the pro app update 2008-1 from a google search and it is still compatable with 10.5.2 (Apple.com website html page nut click download and you are redirected to the latest downloads) but only pro app update 2008-5 is allowed and it requires 10.5.5. I have a different machine that has it all working but when I try to find the component files and copy them it doest work. not available in finder I resort to terminal and SUDO and I can find the AppleHDV.component file but I cant seem to copy it. Its under the .app directory which you cant see in finder. It has the bit set for directory (ls -l) but when you cd to it is says invalid directory.

Does anyone know how to copy a component from one machine to another?

I have been working with EX for almost a year and I run into all kinds of issues like this all the time with variations. Sometimes I get incomplete or blanks in the XDCAM trasfer then under windows clip browser it works Ok. and Vice Versa. Sometimes I neither works. This is why I have been working with the MP4 files directly with Adobe CS3 but the audio would be lost on import. In CS4 the native MP4 works fine.
Its interesting that Sony told be I have to use their tools and I was not aware of log and transfer without their freeware programs.
I also ran into issues using cineform but the latest beta has promised to resolve a few outstanding issues. This program requires the conversion on windows as there is only the codec on Mac currently. They do a MOV wrapper over a WMV that will work on windows and Mac. (The normal Mac MOV wont work at all on Win and vice versa)/ The cineform data is about 2X size but is identical to prores422HQ so I believe this is still the best editing solution for XDCAM EX in FCP

Blue FX has a windows converter
and Panasonic OEMed a freware converter to DVCPRO thats standalone
    that is also windows
    VoltaicHD is a mac program
    https://shedworx.com/?gclid=CNnd34aHy5cCFQIMswodc2MoTQ
    AVC-HD to DVCPRO Transcoder

Here is a panasonic support page
    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/download.htm

Just to differentiate itself Panasonic is now calling its version of
avchd AVCCAM but I believe its the same codec. It just started showing up on new panasonic cameras a few months ago. I guess its the pro version

December 17, 2008 at 1:32 pm in reply to: XDCAm HD422 Codec missing?

I have a new twist to this situation and som infomation, The XDCAM EX codecs are installed with the FCP 6.0.2 update. The sony XDCAM transfer program will give you the warning when they are missing.
You cannit look at the MP4 files in quicktime only the sony transfer will convert to .mov and this codec is requiremed by both sony and fcp. I have a system at 10.5.2 that I upgraded from fcp 6 to 6.0.2 and the codecs are still missing. since I cannot update to 6.05 bundle I need to get the codecs from another machine that is working. How do I transfer the AppleMPEG2Codec.component. I cant find in terminal or in finder?

    ——————————————————————————–

I downloaded the FCP 6.0.2 update 39MB and in installed and created the fpre files for XDCAM EX but the codecs didnt install. The sony XDCAM transfer program states then the XDCAM EX codecs are not there but the FCP about says 6.0.2 is installed and the presets installed. How do I get the codecs installed? I have another machine that works cant I just copy the correct files? I have to stay at 10.5.2 as Pro Tools wont allow to upgrade. All other updates to FCP require 10.5.5

    Thanks
