Yeah now, I am really considering the HPX 250 and a ATOMOS Samurai or Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle recorder. I think overall it’s going to be cheaper to buy hard drives than P2 cards, plus I can edit right away and not have to transfer or encode anything ( although I will transfer for safety) . The HPX 250 like the HPX 370 has 10 bit HD-SDI out.
I know it’s a shame not to use the AVC Intra 100 but 10 bit to PRO RES or Uncompressed QT in the case of the Hyperdeck Shuttle is still GREAT! I think that is going to make the most sense for us.

Does anyone have any real world time estimates for transfer and conversion to ProRes 422 of an hours worth of high bit rate footage? I am thinking an Atomos Ninja or Samurai as an addition might save me a ton of time.

Wow… now there are other options to consider….
    1. Black Magic Design Hyper Deck Shuttle
    2. ATOMOS Samurai
    3. FFV Sidekick

    So many good options now.

Matt, what exactly don’t you like about it? Too slow? Too Difficult?

Thanks, … is anyone just using something as simple as Retrospect and an LTO5 drive?

  • Thanks, I should have known that, I think I did and totally forgot that LANC was a Sony/Canon deal.

  • yes, sorry that is what I meant.
I won’t buy now, but I am trying to put a budget together.

“Likely these new cameras will have Panasonic lens/iris control circuitry.”

Does that mean no LANC control?

Anybody using the AJ-PCD35 PCI EXpress P2 Card Drive? Does this make the transfers faster and more efficient?

    Thanks…
Camera specs won’t help me sell this to the bean counters….
I have to show a savings in man hours and efficiency, savings in annual tape costs etc…
It sounds like maybe the KiPro may be the way to go instead of P2 for faster time to edit and quick turnaround and cheaper per GB for storage.
I am still looking at the HPX-370. That would be a nice fit with the KiPro.
And Archiving is still a big issue.
    LTO4 or Blue Ray?

Boy,,,, with tape… you just stick it on the shelf and your done… acquisition and archive all in one.
In a perfect world, a 64 min P2 card would be just as cheap as a 64 min DVCam tape and you could afford to just put those on the shelf… problem solved. unfortunately this world is far from perfect.
