Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is the HD-SDI out on the AG-AC 160 10 bit or 8 bit?
I am considering 10 bit external recorders like the Black Magic Design HyperDeck Shuttle which records 10 bit uncompressed QT files or the Atomos Samurai that records 10 bit ProRes files. So a 10 bit HD-SDI would be ideal.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

On the DvxUser website, Jan Crittenden Livingston of Panasonic commented that 10-bit external recording would require the HPX-250 model, making it sound like the AC-160 model’s SDI output was only 8-bit.
I don’t think we will have absolute clarity on this issue until the pre-production cameras are being tested, which might be 4-6 months from now.

Anyone have an answer on this one?

Yes, the AC-160 SDI out is only 8-bit, just like the AF-100.
It’s too bad that Panasonic crippled the output this way, which is why I would only consider buying the AC-130 or the HPX-250. For me, the extra features of the AC-160 aren’t worth the price without 10-bit SDI out, so I would rather spend a little bit more and buy the HPX-250, or spend a lot less and buy the AC-130.
