The advantage to uncompressed footage for color work is when it is recorded to 10bit. The 1200a is an 8bit deck and pulls in SDI footage as DVCPRO-HD (8bit) You would need a D5 deck to pull in footage as D5 10bit. Or go through one of the HD-SDI cards for the FC or into an AVID machine to thier DNxHD 10bit.

I assume we can mix the size of P2 memory in the camera ie slot 1 an 8Gig and slot 2 a 4Gig is that correct ?

Since each card has it’s own raid – I would assume that as well.

To get the footage into a HD1200A, use the 1394, no need for HD-SDI. There is no difference between the compression at the HVX200 or in the HD1200A, none whatsoever. HD-SDI would only be useful if you had a RAID that would handle 1.2GBps of data.

    Hi Jan,

Right, of course. I like the 1200A – it is a portable 12V deck, afterall. Given a 1394 hook-up to the camera – what would it take for your engineers to add a ‘record-pause’ command through the 1394 to the deck? That would pretty cool and sell a lot of 1200A decks…ahem.

As far as HD-SDI out – there are times when 10bit video comes in really handy. Such as in keying work. It would be nice to have the option.

Thanks for the reply – you’re doing a great job!

P2 is cool. Not quite for HD yet, but very cool. I hope Panasonic provides HD-SDI out on their new camera. That would solve a great deal of problems in the interim. It would also sell a LOT of 1200a decks. Panny, are you listening?

Try godaddy.com – 39 bucks a year. The best video for the web is Windows Media in my opinion.

hand them the card? not for $1600. What do you mean?

They could pop it in their laptop and watch the day’s shooting. If they keep it or lose it, bill them! I think the proxy encoding is pure genius.

I like the idea of the proxy Mpeg4 recording card going to the client on cd or over the internet, or SHOOT! just hand him the card!

Go to Color Correction (Secondary) and increase the gain, you have increase the saturation a little as well. That’s the place to start.

Honestly, I may have uninstalled it manually. But I don’t remember doing that. Sounds like I probably did though.

The download upgrade did remove V4 off my puter. Strange.
