Hi George,
How did you bring your Motion slo-mo into FCP?
I’m by no means an expert at this, but one thing I have noticed is that I sometimes get a similar effect if I’ve done an effect in Motion then just dropped the file on the timeline. Looks great until I burn a DVD, I have no idea why.
But, I’ve found that if I export the finished product out of Motion as either the format that is your sequence settings (ie DV, DVCPROHD, etc) or even as the standard animation codec (if you need the alpha channel), then drop the resulting file into FCP I get the results I’m looking for.
Maybe this is your issue.

You need to pan the the audio channels. If you go into your audio mixer above the faders you will see Left/Right pan controls. Pan track one so it’s left, track 2 so it’s right.

Yes, I made 4 subclips out of 2 cam clips, selected them all then selected “make Multiclip” to make a 4 angle clip. Seems to work fine.
I’m not sure why your Make subclip would be greyed out. You did bring it into the viewer and make in/out points before trying to make subclip?BTW I’m using HDV footage at the moment.

Hmmmm Thats strange…. I’m in the middle of a multicam project at the moment, so I got curious and tried and it works for me.
I created a new project, used 2 cam clips, put in/out points in the viewer, created a 2 subclips for each one… then created 2 multiclips using the subclip files.FCS2

In the first sentence he said “on two cams with three passes” so I assume he meant to say 6 camera angles to work with rather than 6 cams.
Anyway, I normally do this by capturing them as separate clips in Log and Capture, but as you haven’t done that you could try Modify>Make Sub-Clips. I haven’t tried this myself but thats’ what I’d try.Ralph

I don’t know of one. But basically the protocol that Qlab and most other automation software spits out is Midi and Midi Show Control (MSC), using a USB-Midi converter. These converters are really cheap at about $40 and can be bought at any Music store. So if you can find something simple that responds to MSC so you could do it.
I have heard of some domestic systems that allow your computer to turn on/off house lighting so maybe there are some systems out there, but I’m not sure you could interface that to be triggered from a Quicktime file.

Keep in mind that most of these guys do show control for large theatrical events and theme parks so you will need to frame your question with this in mind, but if anyone could help I’m sure they could.Ralph

There are several Show control automation programs that will do this.
Qlab https://figure53.com/qlab/ is the one I’ve used the most. It will playback the your quicktime movie and spit out Midi Show Control commands at points that you nominate. Most decent quality lighting desks will accept Midi Show Control.
Of course they would need to buy 1) A mac, 2) a copy of Qlab, 3) a decent lighting desk 4) hire someone to program Qlab (fairly easy for someone such as yourself to learn), 5) Hire someone to program the lighting desk.
But that’s the professional way of doing it.
