Hi Brendan,

first of all: Don’t mix Harddrives! Alle Harddrives must be exactly the same Brand, size and firmware to work properly in a hardware array.
Your problem might be a hardware one. The slot #3 could be gone. I’ve had a simolar problem with a sonnet 4-bay raid system. I’ve sent it back and got a replacement from Sonnet. It took about 2 weeks.
To test it, you have to replace the drive of slot #3 with exactly the same HD you used before and then rebuilt. Don’t mix Hitachi drives with Western digital!

Stick to Lacie, or buy a Sonnet R400, both reliable. The next step is SAS, faster but more expensive. Keeo Bobs words in mind! I’ve never regretted the most expensive solutions.

It sounds to me, that your bottleneck will be the SAS.
For the speed you’re looking for you need a 4way FC 8GB/s per lane with minimum of 16 drives plus the big FC Atto card.
Just replace drives won’t do the job.

Hi David,

this sounds interesting. Currently we have around 40TB data on raid. It’s all online. Can we organize our data, so we can find anything via keyword? Obviously we would put keywords to each clip maually.
Can Catdv do such a thing? We would leave everything in place.
Let’s say most of our clips are P2 files with numbers. So within cat DV we would give keywords to the files and can find them where they are and know, whats on it?

Hi Rosie,

very simple: First power up all external harddrives. Then power up the computer.
Shutting down: First shutting down the computer, then you can power off the external harddrives.

Try soundtrack pro. Import the file and export with your specs. Framerate is crucial.

Sonnet Echo, and together with a Sonnet Tempo Sata Pro 6GB 4-Port PCIe Card will do the job. So you can connect 4 eSata ports over Thunderbolt. There are also lots of other PCIe esata Cards on the market. I tend to stick to one branch.
