Having an issue with my SMARTSTOR DS4600.

I keep having to rebuild the same drive (#3)

Drive works fine until I turn it off for an extended period of time. (24hrs)
When I turn back on it tells me drive has failed, and i must rebuild.
This has now happened three times.

I replaced the original Hitachi 2TB with a Western Digital 2TB.

And this has now happened twice with the brand new drive.

Has anyone run in to a similar problem?

    Brendan,

Since nobody has answered, it would seem nobody has run into your issue, likely because nobody else has the same kind of storage you do. I’d contact the manufacturer & see if they’ll back what you purchased from them, part of the reason that after sales support is so critical.

    Good luck!

One does get what one pays for.

    Hi Brendan,

first of all: Don’t mix Harddrives! Alle Harddrives must be exactly the same Brand, size and firmware to work properly in a hardware array.
Your problem might be a hardware one. The slot #3 could be gone. I’ve had a simolar problem with a sonnet 4-bay raid system. I’ve sent it back and got a replacement from Sonnet. It took about 2 weeks.
To test it, you have to replace the drive of slot #3 with exactly the same HD you used before and then rebuilt. Don’t mix Hitachi drives with Western digital!

    cheers

    Rainer
