Hi Jan,

if the H264 for Apple TV plays fine then keep this codec in compressor. You just have to do a letterbox Format. Just make up a new sequence in 4×3 within FCP, throw the 16×9 Quicktime on the 4×3 sequence and its letterboxed. Export via compressor H264 for Aplle TV.

Sony works in GOP – a crap format for all editors. We transfer the whole stuff into ProRes (not LT or Proxy!) via Episode, so the streams have around 100MB/s datarate. With these new files you can do a professional color correction.

Hi Dan,

two possibilities:
You can try it with digital rebellion, a very good FCP troubleshooting software.
What I would do is: Take one of your autosave Project files and go from there on.
You have to do the old thing: trash preferences etc. then repair permissions and then use the last autosave file.

MXF is just a container, not a codec!
MXF containers can hold any video/audio format. In FCP you have to unload the MXF container, more modern editing systems don’t need to unwrap the video/audio files. If you do CC I would always use a proper editing Codec such as Prores or Avids Dnx codec.

Steve is right,

we do it with a hardware conversion, to us the only way of getting a perfect solution. All other solutions and plug-ins are not perfect. If you have a lot of quick camera movement this is the only way. All editing material must be brought to one frame rate before editing.

You need to get the codec from Panasonic. I don’t know whether it works with FCP7 but it works for Avid MC6. Try it. The AVC Intra codec should also be working within FCP.
