Hi Jimmy,

it’s simple – SD files are recorded in DV or AVI with your sony camera. HD files are recorded in Sony’s exclusive (or stupid) fileformat M2T. You have to transfer this file format first (we use Episode for the encoding process). I recommend ProRes.
The m2t sony codec is not within FCP.

Here we go again,

first transcoding, then editing. You end up in a mess with a lot of H264 files, because the render files are a killer.
Transfer all of them and use the same clip names in a different folder. Then set the sequence offline and relink with the ProRes files. You have to save the timecode in the transfer to ProRes,

to me you have to go through XDcam transfer. FCP needs the proper names of the clips for relink

I think your problem lies in the XDcam media files. For FCP you need XDcam transfer to edit in FCP. I think Avid works natively with XDcam media files. So for FCP you have to transfer the XDcam files first with the exact names to relink. FCP refers mostly to names, Avid mostly to Source timecode and tape.

Hi Lisha,

in your case the sound is the most tricky bit. The picture goes fine with 23,98 to 29,97. i would use Soundtrack pro. It is a program within FCP Studio. There is a project window giving you the videorate, timecode etc. Above there is a Pullup/Pulldown window, where you can get your sound in sync.

Hi Michael,

I’ve worked myself around. I’ve got a professional Class 2 monitor 2D for color correction. Then I’ve got a cheap 3D monitor over HDMI. I make a downconversion through my Aja LHI on 525i 29,97. It gives me the 3d effect, but the picture is a little soft. The 3d Monitor doesn’t like the 23.98 fps.

Hi Michael,

I’ve got a step further. I made up a 3d project in 1080p 23,98. So far the transcoding of the AVCHD files into Dnx works one to one. I will edit this project in the original shot format.
But I’m in Pal world, so the next project will be shot in 25p. it’s less hustle in terms of monitoring. The problem is, that my 3D Monitor is not a professional monitor and has problems with the framerate.

Hi Michael,

this is exactly my problem. The original frame rate is 24p (23,97). The Avid project frame rate is 25p. At the moment I’m on MC6 and MC6 doesn’t allow a stereoscopic project with 24p.
Any suggestions?
