Not operational features, Chad, but all the XDCAM supports comes from FC.6.2 on. So if you can’t update you are missing support for one of the most widespread Broadcast formats (the format that SONY developed to substitute BETACAM).
But is it true that is not possible to update with “Software update”?

PPCs and Intel use different formatting for system HD, but this do not affects external HD.
Non “Start Up” discs can work with the newer “GUID Partition Table” or the older “Apple Partition Map”.

If you are able to save the .MTS or whatever that camera records, you can use 5DtoRGB or ClipWrap to convert the files to Prores.

The H265 belong to the new generation HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), which are an improvement of the H264/MP4/AVCHD family (same than those are an improvement of the MPEG-2).
As soon as somebody writes a QT Component for the codec, should be available to use by QT/FC&Co.

Don’t know much about SHXC cards, but I think any SDHC reader would work with them and there are plenty of cheap SDCH readers.

Just to answer your question about my system, Billy, I work with a MBP of 2010 and one of 2007. The only difference is that the 2010 one render faster and is not limited by the GPU as the one of 2007 (problems some times to render MB Looks at 1080/10b).But I want to tell you something; Running properly FC (or whatever other application), is not just about harware.
FC seats on top of a Mac OsX system, and if this is not optimized the application won’t runs smoothly, whatever the hardware you use.
As any system, some maintenance is necessary. I take care of repairing Permissions and keep the HDs directories in order. I use DiskWarrior to do that, and i get FC works fast and without any king of glitches.

I don’t think this is because the length of the movies you can edit in one application versus the other.

5GBs is not a good number. Traditionally Macs liked even numbers of RAM chipsets: 2, 4, 6…They have many many reports of problem due to odd numbers.About your problems on play; D you use an external HD for your media and renders?

That may be a problem of how you set the camera.
Anyway, you can try to plug your cards through an USB card reader.

You have to look for the correct version.
I’m working with e-SATA on a MBP with 10.6.
I think the version I have installed is “SiI3132_1.1.9u_Sil”.
