[Kevin Murphy] ” so I installed the Final Cut Studio applications on the Avid Mac so that I could run both NLE softwares on the same machine. However, I have no capture presets or deck control from the Final Cut Pro software after the new install.”
You need to install the AJA drivers after installing FC.
You also need to install the AJA Exchange application to control the VTRs.

  • If the VTR you are talking about has RS-422 (the XDCAM Station has), I think is feasible with a simple RS-422 splitter.
Is the same way that Shane is saying about editing to HDCAm and Digibeta.

October 11, 2013 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Canon 5D Mark III 60fps wont convert in cinema tools

The best quality option is 5DtoRGb, but as I wrote you can’t conform the Prores files with CinemaTools.
You can convert and change the time base while converting.
    Won’t need CinemaTools.
You may need double file conversions, one for normal speed and one for the slow down.

    FCP.7 do not support 4k.
    FCPX is what you need.

For what I see in the videohive website, those openers are projects.
If the one you have is an AE project, you need After Efects to open the project and make chages.
You can’t open an AE project with any other application.

  • [Shane Ross] “SO this footage is ProRes, 1280×720 at 59.94…and Cinema Tools won’t recognize it?”
That happens when converingt to Prores with 5DtoRGB.”
Curiously the resulting Prores files shows up in CinemaTool as “GOP” stuff (no Intraframe), so CinemaTools won’t conform them.
This is a bug of 5DtoRGB. I contacted the developers about this problem years ago, but haven’t been fixed.

Solution: 5DtoRGB can conform footage to a different time base at the same time that converts.

  • [Steve Garman] “some “expert” told them that the standard for all archiving is JPEG2000″
There is not such a thing like an standard for archiving.

[Steve Garman] “I’ve tried compressor and Squeeze Pro 9 with the same results from both- only interlaced output-no matter how hard I tried to force progressive”
    There is nothing to force.
    You have to de-interlace.

[Dave LaRonde] “..JPEG 2000; it’s a bona-fide video codec and it even supports alpha channels. However, I don’t know if it’s a 10-bit codec like ProRes.”
No the one you get from QT/FC/Compressor.
JPEG2000, as H264, is a highly scalable codec, but in QT you get just a very basic version where you can barely tweak a “quality” slider.
I don’t know the options in ” Sorenson Squeeze”, but a professional JPEG200 compressor gives the option you can find on this page:
    https://www.comprimato.com/en/specification-gpu-jpeg2000

So, JPEG200 will be great if you use the correct application o compress it.
With QT, I guess you get a “basic profile” (?) JPEG2000. I can imagine that with the slider set at top quality, you will put out a lossless 8b file. If is like that, prores is a better option for archiving Betacam stuff. Even ProresLT.

October 6, 2013 at 3:42 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro project disappeared!

    Hi Josh,
    Look for the “Autosave Vault”.
The most recent file on the folder is the last version of the project that FC saved before crashing.

  • [Sham Beeloo] “I’ve turned off the Colourista to see what happens and the red cross disappears, but does that mean that I cannot use Colourista in FCP7?”
That means that you have to pay the license to get rid of the X.
Not sure if is still for sale.
