    Hi!
I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “in the project”. I have made ref.files but I keep them in a folder on my main hard drive not my capture scratch or, as you say, “in the project”. I use them for sending batched through Compressor so I can keep working on other stuff in FC.
Thanks for trying to help, and actually, I’d still like to know any recommendations for avoiding this problem but I found a way around it…
I opened the project via the latest autosave file and saved it. Still didn’t work opening from the main project file so I opened it again from the autosave and then renamed it and re-rendered everything needing rendering and I’m back in the pink. then I deleted the original project file.
Like I said, I’d still like to hear form you on what happened and how to avoid it. Did the ref.file really do this? Because I keep ref.files for other projects and have no such problems. Still scratching my head.
    Forgot to mention…
I still get the FIN-00000001 search but it let’s me cancel and doesn’t hang.. Anyway to stop it from wanting to search?

    Hi!
Wish I had seen this a long time ago. I posted a question on a similar topic just a few minutes ago…it’s an old thead but I’m still hoping for a fix (https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/964945)
I don’t get what ref files and render files have to do with each other… I’m missing render files not ref files.
Nonetheless, if it avoids the problem I’m having, I’m done with ref files… they were just so convenient and quick… and I could keep working in FCP while Comp did its thing.

    Thanks, eh?!

Hi. new here. Have been reading for some time and decided to join.
I have the same problem but still unresolved.
I get two render files (“cannot play movie without”) missing, hit cancel (twice) because I know they cannot be found… (although I did a search in Finder and one came up with a broken-lined box in place of the icon and no path)
After hitting cancel, the project opens (“reading project”) and then the choice to reconnect or continue (i’m told 24 render files are missing….) but then the “movie cannot play properly” pop-up comes up again before I can click continue and then the whole thing freezes up and I have to Force Quit.
I’ve tried everything I’ve found on the internet; reinstalled, trashed prefs, render manager…
It only happens for this one project but it’s a biggie and I really don’t want to redo all the weeks of work I’ve done.
    Umm… don’t know if it matters… FCP5 on a G5 dual 2gHzRam OSx.4.11 to a LaCie d2 via firewire800, am getting PCI express soon
Thanks a ton, love this place, eager to become a creative calf. Not funny? sorry…
