    Hi list,

I have been getting the above error while trying to render my current project. I’m using FCP 5.3. I have multiclips and ref files in the project and I see that when opening the file, I get the error that the referenced media file cannot be found. FCP eventually does find the file and I can see nothing’s offline and I can play and see everything it the timeline. However on final render I’m getting the about “not found” error and the render aborts. The media is on a SATA raid. Would anyone have any thoughts on how I can get passed this error and render everything out?

Many thank in advance for any illumination.

    Warmest,

    Kevin

Im just gonna take minute here to share my insight and experience in general, as i have been in your shoes too many times

never never never do reference movies, ever. whether it be nesting, round tripping, exporting for compressor, whatever, always make your precomps or sub timelines or exports self contained or hard exports.. why? because refernce movies are a bluff, they dont work reliably, and they only lead to headaches and heartaches later on. or, if nothing else, superfluos error messages

    that being said

if you can sit there and click cancel each time that message comes up, so as to complete the render you are doing, then you should be fine. the times this has happened to me it has not had dire outcomes ie it seemed my render was fine. I have since learned to just say no to ref movies, so i dont see that error anymore, so i dont have to babysit the effin render or export

if not, you need to go back into your timeline and replace all your reference movies with real movies, such as hard exports etc.

I have refined this process pretty well, and would be happy to share said info. if you wish

    Hi!
Wish I had seen this a long time ago. I posted a question on a similar topic just a few minutes ago…it’s an old thead but I’m still hoping for a fix (https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/964945)
I don’t get what ref files and render files have to do with each other… I’m missing render files not ref files.
Nonetheless, if it avoids the problem I’m having, I’m done with ref files… they were just so convenient and quick… and I could keep working in FCP while Comp did its thing.

    Thanks, eh?!
