Hi, I know what look I’m after. I will explain. I have a dancing stick figure. After a couple of beats a second figure joins from the left and dances synchronously, after a couple of beats a third figure joins from the right and dances synchronously, after a couple of beats, all three are scaled down and it seems there are more figures beyond the frame, which join the first 3 seamlessly. All of them behave synchronously and are scaled down until they are pretty small. All the figures are aligned in rows and columns. So I only have a problem with the last part, where the figures are multiplicated and come from beyond the frame limits. It would be great if it’s achievable within AE CS 6 as I can’t afford any more plugins at the moment. Thanks a lot for help.

I just checked at home. Indeed it works. I’ll double check at work tomorrow if I have the Post Effects turned on. Thanks.

Hi, thanks very much for the tip. I want to ask, how to apply the animated distortion map? Is it the same as a displacement map? If so, how do I actually animate it? I know how to apply a displacement map, but not animated.

    Appreciate all help.
    Cheers.

Ah, nevermind. I did it in Flash. 🙂

Thanks Joe. The effect looks nice, but unfortunately I’m running AE CS3, and the preset won’t open. I asked on a C4D forum and it seems steam is not really easily doable in C4D, one has to use a plugin such as TurbulenceFD or DPit Effex.

    Cheers.

I forgot to mention that the camera in Cinema 4D is slightly above the cup at an angle, and then it travels slowly to in front of the cup. So perhaps the steam effect would have to be in 3D.(?)

It’s ProRes 422 1280×720 50p. It’s a simple intro, actually it’s a render that comes from Cinema 4D and it is put together in AE. There is visible volumetric light (a gradient effectively) that shows up with banding (when exported from FCP). In this particular case it’s very noticable.

    Cheers.

Hm, I found the wrench icon, it seems I’m using regular ProRes 422 (not lite or proxy etc). So it should be ok, but I still get banding. The clip on which I get banding comes from AE, but I made sure it’s set to ProRes 422 and 50p as well, and it doesn’t help.

    Any more ideas are welcome.
    Thanks!
