June 6, 2006 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Net Render Problem: Different Version of Client and ServerThanks again, well, that’s pretty much what I am doing, and what I did to get the production machine up and running. But I run into an install problem when going from 9.5 to 9.6 on my coworkers machine, as it wants serials, which I enter, and then I have two machines with the same numbers and the client barfs on that.Does your 9.5 CD give you the option to just install the net render client? Mine does not, but it’s a homemade copy left here by the last person who sat in this seat. I can’t find the original. I just have the original V9 with docs and whatnot. Well, maybe when 9.7 or 10 comes out I can sort this out…

June 6, 2006 at 2:22 pm in reply to: New user question, can’t find answer in help file re: converting 2d to 3d…Thanks for your help u two, but you can take a 2d shape and extrude to 3d using what, vectorizer and Nurbs?
I keep running into a brick wall with illustrator 12.01, it can’t save/export anything usuable in c4d or other programs. I think my install is hosed, but tried a clean install with no luck. Is anyone else having problems with Illustrator lastest and greatest. If i try to save to web, I also just get a blank or transparent gif.
And HOLY COW WHERE IS THE Creative Cow Illustrator forum? Do we have one, or I am so blind from drawing lines in Illustrator I just can’t see it in the list…

June 5, 2006 at 12:59 am in reply to: Net Render Problem: Different Version of Client and Servernow ya lost me! I have XP…wish I had a G4 but what to do? what’s a ub? thanks, jigs
again, here’s the storyline:
My 9.6 install works great on production machine (program, server, client). I am just trying to get the net client to work on other machines. I used the installer from the CD, v9.012 on coworkers machines and installed just the net render client. I am assuming this is how it works, the server is running somewhere, anywhere, and passes jobs to networked clients. Then, the networked clients do the work.
In this case the server is running on the production machine. The networked clients report “Different version of client and server” because they are still at the v9.012 level.
The updaters that I have for both 9.5 and 9.6 don’t give the option to install just the net render client like the installer on the CD does. These were downloaded from the maxon website. Arg,,,

June 4, 2006 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Net Render Problem: Different Version of Client and ServerDear nsomnius, thanks for that but I really don’t understand what you are trying to say. See my latest post back to Bjorn on what I did, that also does not work. How do you know which are the client files/folders? Thanks…jigs

June 4, 2006 at 4:05 pm in reply to: Net Render Problem: Different Version of Client and ServerThanks Bjorn, but that just flat out did not work as expected. The entire program starts after following that procedure! I even tried this:
1. install just net render client on coworkers pc, from v9 CD.
2. copy & replace only the files placed there by V9 from my V9.6 install.
3. click on net render client icon.
And the entire CD4 program starts! I noticed too that the executable in the V9.6 install called C4D Client.exe is exactally the same size and date of CINEMA 4D.exe, the program file. So maxon has changed something there, it seems. Very strange! So now what to do?

May 30, 2006 at 6:00 am in reply to: Just learning C4D v9.603 and need help with maxon tutorialsThanks for that! I’ll look at the quickstart next, as all I really want to learn to do is to animate and create clips with an alpha for use in PremierPro, at least for now. Gosh, Boris is a cakewalk compared to this!

May 30, 2006 at 3:27 am in reply to: Just learning C4D v9.603 and need help with maxon tutorialsThanks adam! I am sure it’s as easy as that but I can’t parse those instructions…I am actually stuck on step 9:
Step 9: Open the Timeline if it isn’t already (Window=>Timeline). Select Caution Extrude and then create a Visibility track (File=>New Track=>Special Effects=>Visibility). Double click on the Sequence and change its range: From=42
To=43. Click OK. Insert a keyframe at Frame 42. Enter 100% and click OK. Do the same for Frame 43 but enter 0%.I guess what I need is a tutorial on using the timeline. It seems strange to me (PremierePro/Boris Red) & Poser 6 user. I think the point of step 9 is to? – make that text visable for one frame, 42, and not in frame 43? On the timeline, under motion track, there is position, rotation, and scale as you would expect. Why not just set the scale to zero on all axis? But maybe I am just out to lunch on this. Thanks!
