Just learning C4D v9.603 and need help with maxon tutorials
Posted by Phoenix Studios on May 29, 2006 at 9:38 amI am trying to follow the tutorial here:
https://www.maxon.net/jumps/prog/resources_e.html
animation / animated gifs
and i am noticing that these tutorials were written for earlier version of C4d? I got to step 10 or so till i got really stuck:
Step 10: Create a new Texture Track for Caution Extrude (File=>New Track=>Special Effects=>Texture). These options under new track do not exist!Any help here? I just want to learn how to animate some text….thanks!!!

May 29, 2006 at 4:16 pmThe easiest way to do that now is:
* click on the texture tag to show it’s parameters in the Attributes Manager;
* Ctrl + click on the small dot to the left of the word “Material”;
* move the timeslider forward and drag the second material from the Material Manager into the link box next to the word “Material” (above);
* Ctrl + click the small dot again.That’s it. Now when you render Cinema will blend between the two materials.
If you drag the texture tag into the timeline you’ll see the track that was created–in case you want to do it manually in the future.

May 30, 2006 at 3:27 amThanks adam! I am sure it’s as easy as that but I can’t parse those instructions…I am actually stuck on step 9:
Step 9: Open the Timeline if it isn’t already (Window=>Timeline). Select Caution Extrude and then create a Visibility track (File=>New Track=>Special Effects=>Visibility). Double click on the Sequence and change its range: From=42
To=43. Click OK. Insert a keyframe at Frame 42. Enter 100% and click OK. Do the same for Frame 43 but enter 0%.I guess what I need is a tutorial on using the timeline. It seems strange to me (PremierePro/Boris Red) & Poser 6 user. I think the point of step 9 is to? – make that text visable for one frame, 42, and not in frame 43? On the timeline, under motion track, there is position, rotation, and scale as you would expect. Why not just set the scale to zero on all axis? But maybe I am just out to lunch on this. Thanks!

May 30, 2006 at 4:22 amVisibility is on the Display Tag now. Add a Display Tag to the object the do the same as Adam said for the Material, check Use for the Visibility and ctrl-click the dot to make a keyframe where needed.
Making a keyframe a frame 42 100% doesn’t just make it visible at frame 42, since not other keyframe was made it just means keep it 100 from 0 to 42 (since 100 – the default – is implied) then when you put in 0 at frame 43 it disappears in one frame. If you just put in 0 at 43 the object would disappear slowly from frame 0 (100%) to frame 43 (0%).
With this tut you’re going to discover the Material is easier to do from the tag (as Adam was talking about) like the visibility. There is no light called ‘tube light’ anymore but the same thing can be done with an Area light set to Line and the same settings will work you are just going to need to read the manual and maybe try some other tutes first because this one’s still doable if you know a few basics.
Ignore a lot of the stuff about making new sequences or shortening sequences (in this case) it’s easier just to copy and paste keyframes when that’s easier and set them when it’s easier. 9.603 is different than 7 (which the tutorial was written for) It’s easier to work with so some of the instructions are more complex than they need to be now. Have you tried the Quickstart Manual tutorials yet? The Animation one in there is a good place to start. You might also want to check out tutorials elsewhere. Here’s one done in 8.5 which is much more like 9’s timeline https://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?download=37 – though you might have to become a member

May 30, 2006 at 6:00 amThanks for that! I’ll look at the quickstart next, as all I really want to learn to do is to animate and create clips with an alpha for use in PremierPro, at least for now. Gosh, Boris is a cakewalk compared to this!
