Some of us can be dumb. I was wondering what a mike crash filter did… maybe deleted the thump when someone dropped a hand mike…. then I discovered there were capital letters in Mike and Crash…lol.
Oh well.. I plead senility.

Setting Iris to “Iris In” works for me… i.e I put a 5 second fade at the end of the clip I want to fade, drop the Iris transition on it and in the pop-up dialogue set it to Iris In, and add some feathering.. voila!
No masks, no keyframes, just good ol’ Vegas.

Question: Is there a limit to the number of clips that can be viewed in the trimmer window? Seems I have to press the Clear Trimmer History every now and then.

Having just gone through a similar issue, it seems your camera and cable must be OK since it appears in Printers and Devices. I had a camera with a failed firewire port. If you have access to another firewire ported camera..even a loaner.. try it and see. There just might be some funny goings on in the camera firewire department.

Somehow Windows isn’t allowing other programs to see the device. That might be one to throw at the Microsoft tech-help forum.

According to an MS techie posting on their forum, MS did re-write the driver, and it was on his suggestion the we (meaning all the other forum-ites) re-installed the legacy driver.
After doing that, windows still didn’t see the camera in Devices and Printers. I thought that the cable might be faulty, so changed it. No good. Then I remembered that there was a spate of camera firewire port failures about the time the camera came on the market, and so I swapped the camera for my own little dust-gatherer and Voila! … the first cam had a dud firewire port.
So its all happening now, and thanks to all for taking time to offer suggestions.

The camera is just a pipsqueak panasonic DV tape camera circa 2004/5 with a firewire port. I used to sell the things so I am quite familiar with the menu system and settings, so no tricks there.
It seems Windows isn’t passing info to Vegas.. not sure why. Looks like an afternoon of Google-tripping. All for a favour.
Phooey! Don’t you just hate technology? It all worked so well with Windows XP. What ever happened to MS Dos 3.2?
