A beefier power supply with the right added cable distribution to support a decent GTX card that meets Dell’s recommendations sounds like the ticket.
In the short term, could I simply find an adapter that would split
my current VGA video output for a clone mode 2nd display? Thanks again,

=======================================================The files that have given me trouble are the 1920 x 1080 at 14 Mbps the first one in the list above. I am making some sample shots at the 2nd 1080p setting today and the 720p setting to see if
these fair better with Vegas Pro 10 (d). I’ll report back in a couple of days.Ran some new 1080p footage (top version, 14 Mbps) last on Vegas,
about 5 shots, 4 minutes total on the timeline, observed:
1) Vegas incorrectly thought these were 1080i files,
(same problem mentioned earlier in the thread.)
2) after the 4th shot on the timeline, it became difficult for the preview to run it smoothly, in fact shot 5 was still.
3) Surprise, I was able to render this.
4) no shots turned red on the timeline, but I wasn’t asking Vegas to do much. Just a 3″ fade in the beginning and end of the project. I suspect if I had added an effect, or a overlapping transition things would have broken.that’s all for now,

July 28, 2011 at 11:21 pm in reply to: Is this normal, my Sony PMB won’t recognise Nikon .mov files.Thank you John,
I think that’s a reasonable guess. Just for fun, I downloaded the latest PMB Updater for my camera from Sony, so I’ll see if that helps or not.

July 28, 2011 at 9:04 pm in reply to: Will Vegas Pro 10.0(d) build # 669 handle Nikon S9100 .mov (1080p) files?Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for confirmation.
I was able to use .mov files from my Nikon S9100 with a mix of AVHCD files from my Sony HDR-CX500v ok and render this too.
Also, a vertical mode with all source material from the same Nikon. But 2 weeks ago I put a bunch of .mov (1080p) from the same Nikon on the time Vegas timeline and after the 4th clip I would see red where the image should have been. I would ‘undo’ this addition but then the rest of the remaining images would go red or blue and not play well in the preview. Vegas would then not be able to identify the clip properties properly either stating these were 1080i or not able to identify it all. These are supposed to be 1080p as per Nikon’s spec.
Trying to render, I would get an error message saying that there was not enough memory. We are talking about 3 or 4 clips less than 20 seconds. So I closed the app, rebooted the machine, launched the project again and got the same result. I was thinking that my installation of Vegas Pro 10 (d) has become corrupted which would be surprising as I just rebuilt my system 4 weeks ago. Finally, I have been able use this same installation for three more projects with no problem but using AVCHD files in 1080i from my Sony camera mentioned above.
2 days ago I fired up that troublesome project with exclusive .mov files again and it’s still acting poorly.
Is it possible that the .mov files for this particular project may have been corrupted?
I have made numerous ‘fresh’ projects from the same material and it always goes nuts after the 3rd or 4th clip added to the timeline.
So I don’t think Vegas is at fault or corrupted.
Pretty much out of things to try on this one. Any way to test those
suspect .mov files?
Thanks all,

Thank you Mark for asking and thank you Steve for the scoop. I have been wondering what “the copy-protect the DVD” was all about. You guys just saved me a bunch of time.

Update:
I was able to make a good render by checking each clip property to be sure it had “upper field” checked. I also noticed that on another video if you reverse the clip the field order will change, e.g. if it was upper field it will become lower field. Not sure why this fixed my render issue, but it did it, no more ugly lines. So thanks again for reviewing this.

Thank you again John.
This is very useful.
