I completely neglected to include your DVD player in the chain.
Basically, if it appears ok on your computer player, then it must
be something down the chain that was adding the unwanted stretch.Glad you were able to isolate this one.

June 15, 2011 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Pls Hlp asap – cant figure out correct render from Vegas to DVD-AHello,
Please tell me more about your widescreen tv.Assuming this is a HD TV, you likely have a button on your remote
to change its display, mine (46″ Sony KBR) has a button labeled “wide”. When engaged a menu appears in the upper left with four choices: stretched, full/normal, [something else] and Zoom. What you should have it on, is full or normal. Zoom does not stretch, or change the aspect ratio, it only ‘zoom’s in to fill the screen.Another thing you might do is look at your render on your computer so you have a baseline reference, use Windows Media Player, or such or even use the PMB. If it is stretched on these then yes you have a render issue, if not, then it’s your widescreen tv’s settings.
Hope this helps,

April 16, 2011 at 12:23 am in reply to: Trouble rendering two video tracks.with altered time…Hi Daniel,
Thanks for asking. I should make it clear, the track that appears at the bottom of the frame was slowed to 4x (stretched) and rendered ok.The problem was when I tried to render this with the top track (the inverted melting drop of water) when I had the top track compressed in time by about 2x (sped up 2x). I was ok with the final result of leaving the top track in normal unaltered time (no stretch or compression) on this track. So it seem to me that altering two tracks playing back simultaneously with one track slowed down and other sped up was not possible to render.
I will try out Matt’s suggestion in the studio this weekend to verify that my original conclusion was wrong.
Thanks for all the kind attention.

April 15, 2011 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Trouble rendering two video tracks.with altered time…Hi Matt,
Actually the original clip was shot at normal speed and in the render posted, it’s normal too–just cropped and upside down. Weird things happen to the focus and the exposure when I use the ‘smooth slow mode’ on this camera when the macro is engaged or if I am using manual focus in a shallow depth of field. So I generally only use that when I am shooting with lots of light, and more depth of field. Thanks for the kind words and thanks too for explaining the process of going from interlace source to progressive render with all the ‘gotchas’.
So my original conclusion is not correct, and I have a path to understand where things went goofy.
Great forum–less than a day and I have something positive to work with.

I’ll try that out.
BTW: Just curious, if my camera (Sony HDR-CX500v) is transferring
AVCHD 1080i to the computer, and I am asking it to render in progressive, am I really getting a progressive render? Also, I thought I had the camera set to do 1080p maybe it can only
do 720p and 1080i ? Anyone know more about this camera’s specs? One last thing, although I was not able to render the original content, as I mentioned I altered the top clip to normal time and it did render the whole thing nicely. Did you look at the scene?
(it’s only 8 seconds).Ok thanks again all,

I don’t have this info handy right this minute as this is on my studio machine which is “never” networked (for security reasons which helps me stay sane). I will take a look tonight and report back with accurate info, for now I am guessing that the frame rate is 30p. I haven’t messed with the undersample rate before–“ah ha” something to learn.Like I said I’ll take a look at the configuration and report back tomorrow.
Thanks again for taking a look.

Hi,
I am a newbie to Cow, this is my first post here. I just wanted to say that I often use the PMB while editing in Vegas Pro 10 as it allows me to make a closer look at clips before I decide if they are going in the time line. You already mentioned some of the great features in the PMB like the trimmer, and the ability to organize by date or by folder name, etc., which are nice organizational features. Before choosing to rename clips I would recommend that you consider how this best fits your file organization and work flow. For instance, I found keeping the original Sony Time Stamp for each clip can work well if I keep like subject clips all in their own subject folder. I should mention I am using a Sony HDR-CX500v camera.
Typically I load my shots to a specific project folder. For instance, I have one project folder called “Harbor mixed HD and SD”. Whenever I transfer current shots of this subject they all go to the same place. Here the PMB is very useful in showing the whole project at once. I also save my .veg and renders to the same project folder–everything under one roof.
If I am downloading multiple subjects from the camera, I generally choose a subject folder that most of the items belong to, then when the transfer is over, I can copy the other subjects from this folder to their appropriate folder. (select images, go to edit menu and choose ‘copy to folder’) I then delete the images from the base folder after making the copy. Sometimes you have to ‘refresh’ the PMB to catch up to these changes, sometimes you have to go as far as re-starting the PMB before it sees these changes too.
I too do not recommend using the camera as a reliable secondary storage device, better to use a USB back up disk. However, I agree that leaving some clips on the camera for ‘show and tell’ purposes is useful for impromptu presentations–might as well be ready for opportunity.
Hope this is useful info,
