  • Hi Joe, thanks for your response.
By “more powerful” I’m referring to, for example, 1) an expansive set of diverse brush presets (beyond angle, diameter, and roundness), 2) variances in the line type, such as pen, dry media, wet media, 3) an ability to add a “wiggle” effect to all strokes (this was an option originally available in CS4’s “vector paint” plugin which was phased out and I’ve sorely missed it!)

I’m currently experimenting with adding additional effects to brush layers such as “roughen edges” and “scribble” to create a variance in line that I’m looking for – so it might be the effect I want is achievable by finding the right combination of plug-ins and setting up a system of nested compositions.

My end goal here is to find a method of recording, and playing back, the drawing of my own detailed illustrations in a fast and efficient manner. The brush tool does most of the work I need, but I was curious if a more robust painting plug-in existed.

I see where you’re coming from Alex.
I think what you’re seeing is just the progression (not necessarily the current style) of modern moving images. Traditionally I think ‘graphics’ in video and film were meant to compliment and otherwise be ‘laid overtop’ of an edit job – different story now.

Again I understand your point – but I’d argue that an interesting flow is created with those graphics that makes the space those characters inhabit more loose and organic. Don’t think the same effect could be created with fades, cuts, etc. Anyhow, take it with a grain of salt – I’m an animator 🙂
