Oupps! same answer.First put your comp viewer to 100% then turn your graphic in 3d with the 3d switch, create a new camera, then select the camera, then hit c 2 time then dolly in and you should see if your graphic still clean.

Look like you maybe work on 0.9(720×480) aspect ratio comp with square pix image!try with 720×540 comp.Your screen capture tell me that you are 400% zoomed in maybe is just that?Otherwise continously rasterize should do the trick.

For every render fails, when its a deadline crucial render you have no time to troubleshot, just try to purge your cache while rendering. To do that go to your AE pref menu while you hold shit and alt key together and you supposed to see secret(literally) at the end of the list of prefspane, open it and set it to purge every 15 frames for example. With this setting you should have no problem to render, at least with no memory error.

Just try Color from apple final cut studio, im pretty sure is easy to do what you want with color, just check a tuto.

  • Try to precompose with camera inside the precomp and keep the layer in 2d, or a better idea, render only the grass in alpha and then composite with the cloud. You said “Interestingly, one thing i did come across is that if it passes a certain point in z space, and simultaneously in x space, thats when the edge disappears. if its one the other side of those points, its fine”,so just move/adjust your anchor point to adjust the z and x to the position you said is clean, with the cloud positioned where you want it to be.
