June 15, 2012 at 1:09 am in reply to: NEW: Particleillusion for Sony Vegas — Alan PLZ Comment 🙂P.S. to Alan:
1. I hope you don’t mind that I have copied over your two responses in this thread to the Sony thread about this new Vegas PI plugin. It seems appropriate since it is the official Vegas forum. I’m just trying to keep fellow Veggies up-to-date.
2. Perhaps I jumped to a pessimistic conclusion in my previous post whereby I deleted my download of the plugin since you said that only v.11 of Vegas is supported — I had spaced out that you mentioned that it worked “for the most part“* in v.10. I’ll re-download and try it out on v.`0e and see what happens.
* Not sure what “for the most part” means so those of us with v.10 will find out. That said it would be nice if could clarify that statement so that we could be ready for whatever error messages or glitches would or could arise.
I.e. a “known issues” list of some sort.
At least the ones that you know of for I understand that rolling out a new product is an unfolding process and that developers do as best as they can. Especially with a program as complex under-the-hood as PI.
Thanks.

June 13, 2012 at 6:26 am in reply to: NEW: Particleillusion for Sony Vegas — Alan PLZ Comment 🙂Well, I suppose that settles that, no-in Vegas PI for me — I have Vegas 10.
And I will not be upgrading for at least two versions for Vegas 11 is the most buggy version ever released (never seen so many threads on the problems at the Sony forum since I’ve been there for 6 years).
My v.10 and it’s more buggy than my faithful v.8 and v.6 that I ran on XP. But I need to use the 64-bit v.10 for RAM purposes on my new Win7 64-bit.
But no biggie at all. I’ll keep working in PI proper as I have for years and as Alan pointed out, one can’t actually work on emitters in Vegas. Which to me is the main purpose for PI in the first place — it’s my visual workshop.

June 12, 2012 at 3:05 am in reply to: NEW: Particleillusion for Sony Vegas — Alan PLZ Comment 🙂OK, thanks, Alan.
I just installed both versions for Vegas and will check out the differences you mentioned and it is best I spend some time in there before asking further questions.
All I know for now is that I’m kind of a power-tweaker (read: obsessive 🙂 when it comes to the emitters I create so I may just have to stick to the old alpha .PNG sequence out of PI into Vegas approach I’ve been doing for years.
Whatever the case, it will be fun to fire up Vegas to see what the plugin can actually do or not do in its newfangled Vegas GUI outfit 🙂

April 23, 2012 at 11:09 pm in reply to: Copy/Paste Without Losing Emitter Postion/Angle?OK, thanks, Alan.
I’m not using PI right now but that seems to be exactly what I have been doing (Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V) and still get what I described. I’ll try again including using the Edit menu for this and see if it makes any difference — and tell you what happens. May take me a couple of days.

I second Kurt’s comment of appreciation.
I also believe in the quality vs. quantity principle — I’ve noticed that the more recent libraries have contained some rather layered/sophisticated emitters/particles that must take more time and fine-tuning than perhaps the ones from years ago.
As with everyone, I have certain effects that I prefer and resonate to more than others as my own core library. And so there are so many that I will probably never actually use (but being kind of a digital pack-rat, the “Well, it may come in handy some day…” makes me keep 99.99 of them).
In short as I’ve stated before, we’ve been gratefully spoiled for years. It seems absolutely fair and reasonable to not have to continue the monthly rhythm and switch to quarterly.
I’m still going to feel like a kid when they are released…

As I had alluded to in similar thread I started (“No Feb. 2012 Emitters?”) to which Alan referred, the truth is–or at least I’ll own it for myself–that we’ve been spoiled for years having monthly emitters. It’s time to face the the music and admit that we are emitter-addicts – lol.
So I feel some flexibility and patience is definitely called for by us, the swirling masses. How many software progs give you goodies like that, year after year, eh?
P.S. to Alan: the above confession is not a hint to discontinue the goodies, OK?

Thanks for your response, Alan.
It gives me/us a better picture of how things are with you and PI. While you have clarified that no major updates are in the pipeline, I”m still curious on the 64-bit question. Could you elaborate a bit on why it would or would not be possible to make such a version for PI?
I’m aware that there are plenty of products that are still 32-bit — even Firefox still is as far as I know (at least mine is). I can’t afford Photoshop even though I took a course in it 20 years ago so I’ve been using Corel PhotoPaint – which I’ve been using since 1997. It’s still 32-bit. I don’t know about Photoshop.
But the advantage of being able to draw on a 64-bit system is great — I see it in Vegas and Cubase. However while PI is at its most basic an imaging program, the complexities are obvious even for a non-programmer such as I.
So no-64-bit is not a deal breaker, I love and cherish my PI – and as with Kurt, I have more particles than I know what to do with. But you can’t blame a guy for dreaming in 64-bit either – lol.
Sincerely,
~ Philip Knight

An after-thought to any other users reading this thread…
As has been noticed, it seems that feedback from PI or Alan has dwindled lately here. Kind of a bummer but perhaps there are things going on behind the scenes at GenArts or even Alan’s own life of which we are not aware. Including some in-corporation politics or whatever as there is in any business.
Point being that I don’t wish to assume that there is some lack of commitment or that PI is dying out on us. I/we just don’t know.
But I do miss Alan’s posts and insightful/solution-bearing posts.
Hopefully we’ll see more of him and/or other staff here again. And here is the facts for me: even if worst came to worst and PI was no more, I still have it and all the emitters every released so far and I can still make some really kewl stuff for years to come. As long as I don’t run into activation “Continue” issues whereby I’m not allowed to use what I bought and paid for…
In short, I’m grateful for what I’ve got.
I just hope it keeps on keeping on 🙂~ Philip Knight

Thanks, most kind.
I dropped out of design college in 1978 about one month from finishing due to a major life crises. But, hey, I still walked away with what I learned, all the little tiny artiste tricks on how to make stuff look good 🙂
So no diploma, but then so what, right? lol
In fact, I did also work as a graphics and display designer later.
So nuttin’ lost 🙂========== Owner/operator of CompassionSensuality.Net – (https://www.compassionsensuality.net/) ==========
