January 8, 2014 at 12:21 am in reply to: Do Multiple Events in a Library Slow Things Down? That’s useful to know Fabrizio. We’re using a similar type of footage and although we’d never have more than 1 Library open at a time, a Library for a typical client could contain over 20hours of clip footage.

January 8, 2014 at 12:17 am in reply to: Do Multiple Events in a Library Slow Things Down?Yep, I prefer the fact there’s no longer a need to keep things stored in a root-level folder specifically called Final Cut Events / Projects, although it wasn’t a great hassle to move stuff in and out. And you’re right that there’s no need to give an event the same name as the library – it’s more an OCD thing 😉

Thanks Bret. I double checked FC preferences because it’s happened before after an update where it sets itself to create proxy/optimized media. Not that…
We import directly via FCPX. Are you saying you import another way? No video files show up on the SD cards unless you open via FC.

Thanks for the reply Andy. Yes I did mean import and it’s directly into the card slot on the Mac. It’s not the computer because it’s happening on 3 different machines.

November 27, 2012 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Jerky playback and missing peaks in timeline when cutting between multi-cam clipsThanks for suggestions.
Using proxy, I’ve read that the final output is noticeably lower quality compared to optimised or native. We use up hard drives pretty quickly as it is (filming 4 days a week, every week) so using optimised isn’t really an option either. It’s not just the storage, is the significantly extra import time. So I guess we’ll need to stump for thunderbolt drives for everyone. Best look at remortgaging now then…

Coming from Sont Vegas, I’m used to the time line scrolling with the play head. Has this never been a feature of Final Cut or something omitted in X?

I’m working with AVCHD.
If firewire is the minimum, what other alternative is there? There are no USB 3.0 ports on new Macs and it’s difficult to fin any thunderbolt drives (and those that do exist are too expensive for the number of drives we go through).

February 9, 2012 at 11:02 am in reply to: Couple of questions about importing / transcodingYes AVCHD.
It can get a bit stuttery with original media but nothing unbearable. Multiple crashes per day and struggles with stacked text / transitions but isn’t that everyone? Specs below.
I’ve got to get a second machine this month and I’m wondering whether a better graphics card or more RAM would make a noticeable difference?
Specs:
3.4 GHz quad core i7 processor (Intel)
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
4GB (two 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM.
