When you are in the Digitize tool; have you clicked on “check decks” to load up a template for your camera. For instance, I still use my old digital 8 camera for weekend shooting and the Avid doesn’t list my exact camera, but I’ve chosen a template that is similar and it works just fine. I also have it do a “quick cue” and then, if i need to do I do a custom pre-roll.
I hope this helps … I’m off on for the 3 day weekend. cheers!

well … now I’ve gotta check out this band. I’m not familiar with Del Amitri – “Make it Better”. I’m still stuck on all my old favorites from the late 60s, early 70s. sad. I know.

I want to reiterate Jon’s note. I did hook up cable tv thru the JVC to my avid fairly reguarly. I used to build presentations from air checks for a client and they would get me VHS tapes, but when I knew the schedule I would directly record into the Avid off the air and the quality was fantastic.

Yes you can. just delete the two database files in the folder, so Avid will rebuild them after it relaunches.

I’ve had the original JVC minidv/VHS deck for years and have never had a problem with it. Plus it makes great VHS copies and I also use it digitize in VHS when I’ve had to. On the other hand, a cheap camera should work just fine, make sure it has analog thru-put, not all of them do, for looping to a monitor. If you don’t use it much and digitize a whole tape at a time, it should work for years.

This used to happen all the time on other systems I’ve worked on.
Absolutely, render everything. Throw out old pre-computes first.
It could just be a corrupt render.
Usually, for me it came down to a corrupt file, if you work backwards from your last few edits you can figure out which file is bad. If possible just, re-digitize the latest tape you used.

Don’t worry about splitting up audio & video onto seperate drives, that’s old school … at least 3 years. lol.

    Harris bought Leitch.
so they now own the Velocity series of editors too.

well, it looks like we’re going to keep with the Inscriber family.
They offer a full suite pf products that include CG, Still-store, & Paint system. The quality looks great on the screen. I’m a little concerned that since Inscriber, which is owned by Leitch, and has now been bought by Harris may fall out of production; at least the Harris website barely links to the product. Anyways, I thought I’d give an update. Phil Boal

  • I’d just pack another couple of tapes. Shoot the whole time-lapse in real time. You’re not moving the camera anyways. Then use your NLE to shorten the sequence to the appropriate time you want the time-lapse to appear. Sunrise & Sunsets happen within an hour. Longer sequences will involve changing tapes.

I bought a Sony mini disk recorder/player a few years back for recording ambient sounds, free of the camera, and I’ve loved using it. Its 48k, stereo.
I have a sennheisor stereo mike on a fishpole and sometimes I use it for recording “live music” in its entirety, while the cameras roam around for shots. Its not a hard drive like the I-Pod, or other MP3 recorders, but it works great for me.
