Thanks folks. I’ll give it a shot. I’ve got to say that Video Clipboard is a really nice, quick feature of the Inscriber package, and I think its a shame they have taken it out of their package in recent releases.

Just a note on Traditional On-line (albeit, digital with pre-read)
I’ve had several years in on-line before I operated Avid and the Quantel Editbox.
I loved the Quantel. Talk about a chick magnet, it was certainly the sexiest system I’ve edited on. Just a Wacom type tablet & wand and a screen, and everything looked like film. way cool. and Avid, of course is awesome. i still have Pro running on a laptop at home.

What makes the digital on-line bay at MDA cool is its using the Accom Axial editor which has some built in “un-linear” editing functions, especially when using the 2 Abekas DDRs. Without the DDRs and a lot of decks, this would not nearly be as sweet.

    Thanks, Phil B

It’s funny to me that I do the opposite of Del’s technique but we probably both end up in the same place. I always cut the audio first working at it to get the best pace and performances. My thinking is I can always make the video work, such as using a different take and syncing the picture to the sound, or using cutaways to cover problems. I really like to lock in the audio as much as possible so I can concentrate on doing video only edits.

Avis Express Pro operates virtually the same as an Avid Adreneline system, minus a few keystrokes and minor differences. I’ve edited many 60 minute documentary style shows on Express Pro that were finished in the Adreneline very simply. I vote … go for the Pro.

Actually, I was wondering what the best Video file format would be for the audio mixer to use to visually sync up his mix to my picture. I’m assuming QT, but I’m open to suggestion.

I’m giving him AIFF files for the audio.

Right you are. The Mojo needs to be on its own bus.
Firewire cards ar so cheap $50 that I usually have one card per hard drive + one for the Mojo or digital camera.

If you’ve already made an edit with this particular matte key, you can just scroll to it on your timeline and then double click on it to load it up into the effects editor. from there you can make a copy of it, drag it to a bin, whatever you need to do.

If you haven’t already edited with it. Open up the Media Tool, turn on all of the choices and you should see all of your matte keys lumped together and you can find it quickly. (it helps to add labels to the mattes)

    hope this helps.

The great thing about making a reel on a DVD is you can customize for different clients. You can type up different information on select pages that will reflect the particular job you’re looking at.

When I made a reel recently I had my spots & promos up first edited together into a 4 minute “reel”. plus I had links to my longer pieces. I had entire segments of 1/2 hr shows that each ran about 6-8 minutes. I had a 10 minute sale video on a seperate button.

and then just for grins, for one use only, I put in a 3 minute home video of me waterskiing.

I suggest you make a professional presentation but then also try add a personal touch with some humor. also all the BGs for each page were personal photographs I took, just to add a little more personality.

good luck … and go get’em.

    Thanks Seth,

I will give it a try this morning when I’m back in the studio.
I appreciate the “Take a little off the top” line because that’s what I’m really going for.
