No worries- not sure why time lapse was taken out on the 100b but it is indeed gone. An original 100 or A model would still do the trick. Also a good digital still camera can do timelapse wonders with the right gear.

[doggies] “Any suggestions how to shoot the magnificent sunrises and sunsets of Africa without this feature?”

Just let the camera roll. How long does it take to complete a full sunrise? Certainly less than 60 minutes! So start the camera, let it roll straight through, and then import the footage in your NLE and speed it up to whatever time-lapse-equivalent speed you’re looking for.

Just heed proper precautions about pointing your lens at the sun and you should easily get what you’re looking for.

What the hell should I shoot in..

    I am thinking 24PA
    I will edit on G5 2.5.. fcp 5.0

“They” bought me the camera and gave me all the funds to “get er done”… movie about orphans whose parents died from AIDS and war… will be filming for 1 month…

I have read your book and watched the DVD.. info overload.. lol : )

Feeling a bit anxious…. I come from pd 150 land..

Do you have any sound advice.. regarding dvx 100b settings… if all else fails set your camera to…………….. (fill in the blank)

    THANKS : )

If you are coming from a PD-150 you should keep in mind the DVX does not have a full auto mode for audio it only has an ALC (limiter) not an AGC (Auto gain control). So you should always keep an eye on the meter to keep it from clipping or from being unusably low.

-As for the DVX… should I always shoot for a little bit of red.. no more than one bar of red ?-

As with any format you want to protect from clipping the signal, so a touch of red is fine depending on what you are doing. Like a sit down interview, you can run it a little lower on more unpredictable thing like shooting b-roll, being digital it is very clean and you can always bring it up, but once it is distorted it cannot be fixed.

-The ALC.. is it GOOD? Is -50 the setting I should use? What is that equivalent to on the pd 150…….? -12db ?-

I think the ALC is good and I use it, it is only a limiter and it only kicks in when the signal reaches a point that it would start to distort. The -50/-60 adjusts the input sensitivity to the mic input, so it just depend on your mic and you situation. I would think a hotter mic like the K6 you would want at -50. But if you are in a room where everyone is whispering vs. a loud basketball arena you can adjust accordingly.

Thanks for the insigt and anymore audi info you are willing to part with…

-I will be using the Sennheiser ME66/K6 and AG-MC100G.. do you think that is better than using the on board as one of the mics?-
It is definitely better to use an external mic, the internals are terrible.

I don’t use FCP, so you’ll have to get some advice on best FCP settings from Noah or other FCP expert. However, if you’re planning on making a 24p DVD, definitely shoot 24pa. If you want a 16×9 image, definitely use squeeze/24pa/thin line detail.
