If I downloaded the FPC X software today I would be charged the equivalent of US$375. No matter what GST (10% in Australia) etc that you add this it is still considerably more than a USA based customer would pay that is going into Apple’s bank account.

But there shouldn’t be any GST and the cost of delivery should be the same as in the USA.

Not the point at all.

If you want to purchase something in Australia you pay the same as an Australian.
If you want to come to Australia and make the purchase you pay your fare to get here.
If you want me to send it to you, I’ll charge the freight on top of the cost of the item.

But I don’t (unless I want a criminal charge against me) say oh you are are an American so I’m going to charge you more for the item. Nor does Larry Jordan or Lynda charge me more for downloads than they charge an American, but Apple does.

Fuel about Aus$1.56 per litre, loaf of bread about $3.50. Internet $80 per month 25Gb download cap, same whether you’re Australian or American or Chinese. Average annual wage about Aus$64,000, average Sydney house price $640,000.

For what it’s worth USA and Australia have a free trade agreement. The US is continually complaining about the price Australia sells it wheat to other countries for.

Just thought I’d make mischief whilst many other loyal customers (or maybe former customers) are laying into Apple about this whole catastrophe. I myself am not really affected, and for my business $50 – $60 is neither here nor there if the program saves me time. FCP 7 / FCS serves me well but unlike pure post houses 90% of my editing is my own work.

Lets not forget that loyal FCP customers have helped Apple to where it is and I feel dropping FCP 7 immediately has been a gross dis-service to those people who through feedback have helped make it the success it is (or was) and as a result financial profit for Apple. Apple have let those people down in favour of their own profits, somewhat immoral. I also think charging people of other nationalities extra for the same product and delivery immoral, indeed if you did this in Australia it would be a criminal offence.

I’m sure that FCP eX with upgrades will one day be all that it promised. I myself am embarking on a big and totally new and on-going project for which FCP eX would be ideal and it would make good sense to start with it now. I will probably purchase it as soon as my friend that works for Apple has shown me all that it can do. But like my bank and my tele communications provider I don’t care much for the way Apple now treat their customers.

Not enough information about the camcorder.

If its from the US its unlikely to be 1080i50 it would be 1080i60.

Have you set the camera to play back DV in preference to HDV via the firewire export?

Canon FD lenses

Avoid the Canon FD lenses. You need an adaptor with glass in it to make it work with the EOS cameras and they simply do not work well. Soft am afraid! A real shame as there are lots of affordable FD lenses out there…

I keep my output level to the same as yours -6db peak for online.

What I do think you should consider is the implications of outputting to Flash.

I took all my website showreel footage off flash a year or so ago after numerous messages from producers saying they couldn’t access it on mobile devices whilst in pre production meetings. Take a look at the number of iPads and iPhones out there, whether you like them or not they’re now a huge portion of the audience.

The FD – EOS adaptor needs an optical element.

This probably why you can only get restricted focus with a mechanical only adaptor.

I seem to remember reading somewhere the results weren’t perfect and images were a little soft.

My apologies, I was unaware you could use an external mic with H1, this is a big plus. Guess I looked and didn’t see XLR inputs and wrongly assumed so.

And of course the 60D has manual control of audio levels, something not possible on the 7D (unfortunately).
