I have a trick that I often use for this type of shot (interview).
I have the camera on a tripod and the mic IN shot at an ideal position. I let the camera run, do my interview and with the camera still running remove the mic. Then I stop the take. In post I do a Matte masking out the mic and using the end of the shot (as still pic) as the insert. You get the perfect audio and picture.

This is most likely the arm of your gimbal triggering the viewfinder eye sensor. This switches off the screen and switches on the viewfinder. You can deactivate that sensor in the Custom Menu.

I will probable have about 6 mics for the main recording.
I have been looking at a few Tony Faulkner videos and he has a main system plus 2 separate and independent backups.
Mic transformers are expensive so I think I will just take an additional ORTF stereo pair for the backup.

Wonderful to have such a prompt response.
All my mics need phantom power. I am recording live classical orchestral music – so no sound board line output. You recommend ones with transformer coupling – this would be 1 transformer to 1 recorder and the other feed direct to the other recorder to transfer the 48V – yes?

Don’t forget that to record 4k Video with the A7S an external recorder is required.

Many thanks for your answer.
I think the person who did the contact work for us was a little inexperienced. However it was the first time that I have been confronted with a complaint that the equipment was “too professional” after receiving permission. Everything was very discrete. I have even taken camera cranes to film an orchestra session with no problem.

I downloaded a program from https://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php , ran it and it did an amazing job of cleaning-up my iMac.
I now have 6 GB of free memory instead of the 10 Mb I had before!
