The problem with stage lighting are the bright spots that can cause overexposure of faces.
This would be especially true if a followspot is used. In that case the main actor is much brighter than the rest of the stage. If your camera is set for automatic exposure then an average value for the light intensity is taken and the actor will be overexposed. You cannot correct for blown-out highlights in post.
To avoid this set your camera to manual exposure (if you can) and make sure that you do not blow out the highlights. Otherwise try to underexpose with exposure compensation.
Another problem is if the stage lighting changes a lot. Then you have to be very quick to re-adjust.

  • I did some tests with resolution charts and found that ClipWrap does a better job of converting 1080 25psf files from a Lumix GH2 into ProRes 422 than the FCP7 Log and Transfer.

  • Hi Tom

    My configuration is:
    iMac i5 8GB OS 10.6.2
    QT 10.0 (90.7)

  • Hi
This thread hasn’t given any solution to this problem.
I now also have a Prores 422 export that shows minor picture scaling (<5%) jumps at random. In canvas there are no such irregularities – only on the exported file. Exporting this “bad” mov file as h.264 shows the same problems. I have been using my iMac for 2 years without this problem.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks
    Peter
