absloutley Alex – the other thing (if this is a band) is to make sure all the instruments are going through the PA. In smaller venues the drums might not

if your client is a government agency then the luxury of cost plus pricing might be viable. In a competitive market I would advise checking out prices offered by (professional) short-run duplicators and price accordingly.

Think about it – if you have a single DVD burner it will take you 8 hours, if you have a 4 burner it will take you 2 hours, if you have an automated unit it will take you 20 minutes.

Be as accomodating towards the client as you possibly can, especially when you don’t know what personal circumstrances they are in.

Most of your future business will come from your current client base. Read Seth Godin’s seminal “Permission Marketing”.

you don’t need to spend 6k for a camera as light as the XL2

vinten, sachtler and miller all make “DV” setups that will handle the XL2 starting around $1200

I am real happy with my Vinten Vison 3 which was around $1600. The best deals for vintens are from theri west coast dealer – significantly cheaper than B&H

the only time I have seen anything similar is after switching lenses and getting some dirt/grease on the surfaces where the lens mates with the body. The surfaces evidently provide an electrical connection of some sort.

Yes – steadicam rigs are specialized pieces of equipment. If you have 2 or 3 shooters maybe one could use a steadicam part of the time but I can’t see using one for the typical wedding, especially now that the novelty of the floating shot has worn off. And it has to be very distracting for the guests.

For low shots some glidecam-type units have a cradle so you can use them upside down. I’ve even just held a monopod upside down and flipped the image in post. High shots are problematic because you have to hold the unit at its pivot point to get the benefit. A monopod might work better.

I shot with a guy last week who had mounted his pd150 on a small breadboard with the quickrelease plate mounted underneath. Worked very well for steadying handheld shots and keeping the frame level – very versatile and very cheap. Plexiglass would be even better so that you could see the lcd from below for high shots.

    thanks

it seems that she has premiere elements, and had no oppurtunity to specify the codec…but fps 29.97, millions of colors, quality 100% all look good – so hopefully I wont lose too much getting it into fcp

you would need to be able to provide a lot of very very hi quality samples, be super-efficient with state of the art software and hardware to have any chance of making this work.

The real problem is that producing a wedding video involves a lot of very time consuming routine (duping tapes, logging, matching up footage/audio etc) which no-one is going to pay much for, and a lot of highly subjective decision making which everyone thinks they excel at.
