Remember that even when you set it to “best” this only applies to scale and position. Soon as you adjust rotation of any kind , even though it is set to “best” you will only get “normal out of it. Rotation was not included in the new rendering algorithyms. Check the knowledge base for more info. Kind of a bummer really.

I think I’ll go with the first method, simply because the sd downconvert with letterbox out of the F 500 is only 29.97 and I definitely want to stay in 23.98 timbase. Now that’s settle I better get my butt in gear and get capturing. Next on the list is my audio workflow.

I just did another test. I captured two clips .Clip 1 was checked 16 X 9in its’ capture setting, clip 2 was unchecked. Sequence 1 had 16X9 checked in its’ sequence settings. When I edited clip1 (16×9) into seq 1 my canvas showed thje omage to be 16×9 but my SD sdi out monitor showed anamorphic (squeezed). Clip 2in the canvas appears 16×9 but in the sdi out it is pillar boxed. In Sequence 2 (16X9) not checked clip 1(16×9) appears as 16×9 in the canvas and 16×9 in the sdi out. This is what I was looking for except that it is showing with a green line on the timeline asking me to render this. Although my machine is ffast enough to play it , it is neverthe less asking me to render. clip2 in sequence 2 apppears anamorphic in both canvas and sdi out. I guess the question here is whether or not I can capture a 16×9 clip that doesn’t require rendering in the timeline in order to have letterbox out to my sdi and composite monitors?

Well I seemed to be able to bring in dv50 at 23.98 fine and dandy, but it is anamorhphic not letterbox in a 720 X 480 frame. I guess the letterbox down conversion on the Kona 2 only works when you have a hd file and you want to play it sd out. Now the HDCAM deck has the letterbox downconvert for sd out but that is at 29.97. Am I stuck with anamorphic in dv50 in order to get 23.98.

We will be conform back to 10 bit 23.98 HD master that will go out to film and creating a 1080i master as well
I think I’m all clear on this offlining worflow now Thanks David and Gary for youe expertice.

Gary if we can not transcode how can I do this through the Kona 2 to dv 50 24p. It only uses firewire.

Unfortunately there is no firewire out ont theHDW F500 Hd Cam deck. Would I be able to do this with the JH3 player only deck?

While we’re on the timecode display topic, how about timecode displays that don’t disable while in capture or edit to tape modes. I would like to make notes while capturing not to mention during edit to tape I always want to know where the deck is.
