    Hi Rick,

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the VFX filters in BCC. BCC 8 includes a mix of hardware accelerated filters, which do all of the processing on the GPU, and filters that do all of the image processing on the CPU.

Some of the filters in the BCC 8 will render very close to real time, while others might take a little while longer to process the image. The BCC 8 Film Glow, for instance, should be performing at approximately 2X real time in Adobe After Effects (CS 6) on your system. What I mean by this is that if your system takes 1 second to render a frame with no filter effects, then the same frame will render in 2 seconds with the BCC Film Glow. Is this along the lines of what you are seeing?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Okay … we’ll take this off-line from here. Here’s my direct mail … peterm@borisfx.com. There’s a very small file size limit on our email though so don’t send it there, just send me an email and I’ll have one of the support guys provide you with a dropbox.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

  • Sure thing Mike and sorry that you couldn’t make it for the Tuesday presentation, but there will be more. Perhaps NAB?

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with a .mov file and a RED project so that we can take a look at it in house?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

  • HI Robert,

This worked fine on earlier builds of Vegas Pro … we’ve verified that on our systems so something changed in Vegas Pro that is the source of the problem. We’ll see what we can do to arrive at a solution as soon as possible. Also, we’re seeing that the problem is apparent in more than just the Lens Flare 3D filter but it’s something that doesn’t affect every filter in the package.

Thanks for reporting this to us.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Jaeson,

Can you please prove me with more details on the clip that you are using? Is it a QT or an AVI file? Also, you mention that this clip plays as expected in Quicktime player but that it’s static in RED 5. Does that only happen with these media files or with any media file? If it’s the latter then this is a simple setting in RED. Launch RED and from the menu bar that runs along the top of the screen, select Preview>Image … you should have Update Source selected from this menu … if this is not checked then RED cannot update the clip as you move frame to frame. Make sure that this is enabled.

    I hope this helps,

    Peter.

  • Hi Mike,

Can you please post a link to the tutorial so that I can comment on exactly the piece that you are looking at?

One thing to keep in mind is that you should apply the filter to the clip that you want to use as an image layer. So, import the .mov file into Vegas Pro, then place this into the timeline. You then apply the filter to that piece of media in the timeline and pull the media into the filter by selecting it in the filter controls.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

  • Hi Guys,

I apologize for the delayed response … I was working off-site for a few days and couldn’t check in to the forum. So … my first step will be to see if I can reproduce the slowness that you are seeing on our systems. You’re reporting that when you use BCC 8 with Vegas Pro 12 that when you attempt to load presets into the Lens Flare 3D filter that the response from the system is not what you would expect.

While I look into this, can you please let me know if this is something new – i.e., did you upgrade anything on the system that could be responsible for the sluggish performance?

Also, how is the performance when you are interacting with the filter parameters in the effects control window? You should be getting real-time live interaction as you make changes to the filter. Is this what you are seeing?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Daniel,

The person best positioned to provide you with tips on this would be Dirk de Jong, who created the actual image that you are referencing in this doc file. I’ll ask him to get in touch with you.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

And by the way, I should also mention that you depending on the effect that you are creating, in addition to the BCC Particle Array 3D, you may also want to take a look at BCC Organic Strands or even BCC Particle Emitter 3D. All of these filters are OpenGL hardware accelerated for maximum speed and are capable of generating some really cool and interesting looks.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
