  • We found a good way to do this.

    Playout the program as 25p

then convert the SRW5500 to 29.97

then digitise into FCP 29.97 and time stretch the picture at 83.33%
    Our films are only

the reason for this is we have Dolby surround sound which must not be corrupted.

    Then master onto SRW5500

    FCP since 2003 — G5 w/ Blackmagic Decklink HD

  • interesting I will try that

    FCP since 2003 — G5 w/ Blackmagic Decklink HD

  • Why would I want to go to 23.98?

    My delivery format is 29.97

    FH 4:3 HD master!

Yes, I have had to do this a number of times. Some companies in the States insist on it. Especially if is going to played on aeroplane entertainment systems.

The way to do it is to claculate a new 4:3 HD timeline then copy and paste your 16:9 timeline into it. You then Pan & Scan troublesome shots to preserve meaning. You can then play this out onto HD but set your monitor to 4:3 otherwise it will stretch it.

You can also downconvert this to make SD 4:3 deliverables.

rendering can take time …. include in your invoice!

What would be really good is a Text Filter which simply overlays (burns in) the name of the subclip. As this has already been given the scene, slate and take info. Would save typing it all in again!

    ok…. that is distressing!

I never realised it wasn’t possible to do this. I did of course search the posts before posting…. nothing came up with my query.

    thanks drPete

If I switch the camera to DVCAM rec mode and then refresh videoplayback in FCP to AppleFireWirePAL then I get a picture. But it is only a still picture when the playback head is stopped. The picture is also smaller then the frame. The HDV1440x270 preferences are still greyed out!

  • It is the same even when delete the audio tracks

  • The system is a QuadG5 with 2GB RAM. The raid is a 5TB Eonstor. Via ATTO SCSI.

The decklink is connected to a DVW2000P Digibeta Deck. With SDI returning to the Decklink and RS422 control.

The sequence is 1.5 hours long! it is mostly 1 track with only occasional dissolves and titles on three tracks. It is colour corrected throughout and the thus the whole track is rendered. there are 4 tracks of audio.

    Setting UNCOMPRESSED 10 bit quality 100 48khz 16 bit
    Frame size 1920×1080 HDTV 1080i(16:9)

    Device control HDTV 1080i 50
    output setting HDTV 1080i 25

    Desktop mirroring is off

When I try to edit to tape, after about a minute the break up starts. It struggles on and then crashes the edit to tape.
It seems to play the HD via SDI onto a HD monitor slightly better. But the downconversion keeps failing.

I have tried reducing the memory allocation of FCP. I have tried printing small sections of the film.

    Many thanks.
