I want to second the roto approach. If you just have a suit or clothing that’s the issue, roto out the suit or fabric, then play around with desaturation, blurs, channel mixing, etc. — this can be very effective

Thanks Dave,
Here’s some additional information:
After Effects version 10.5.0.253 running on Mac OS X version 10.7.4 — dual 2.66 six-core processors with 32GB of ram and ATI 5870 (open gl disabled, render multiple frames simultaneously enabled)
The footage being manipulated is all vector objects of different kinds, mostly AI files with the occasional shape layer and basic solid
The problem does not occur when I create a new project and animate a solid using the motion sketch tool. However, if I create a new composition in the project in question, the problem inevitably occurs, whether I’m animating a shape layer, a solid, or an AI file.
No other software running. Have the usual plugins installed — magic bullet, trapcode, plexus, newton
Project file (as well as the successful dummy test) are 32bpc srgb linearizedLet me know if there’s any other info that’s valuable. Boggled by this one. Have attempted minor changes some dozen times and the crash has recurred every time.

May 2, 2012 at 3:11 pm in reply to: When working in a linear, 32-bit floating point working space…I think that answers it, and makes sense — you don’t have to use the Color Profile Converter for images from Ai, for instance, if you’re working in a properly color managed workflow. I encountered this issue since I’m drawing from RGB/Hex values from an external style guide. So if you want to recreate those values using the internal tools within Ae, you have to use the utility. Thanks for the info Darby, this clears it up, and I’ll keep an eye out for stacking order issues!

May 2, 2012 at 2:39 pm in reply to: When working in a linear, 32-bit floating point working space…Anyone have any ideas? Checked out Adobe’s help page for the Color Profile Converter (https://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/N10112a.html) where they mention:
“In most cases, you should use automatic color management features to convert from one color space to another, rather than using the Color Profile Converter to manually do the conversions. (See Color management.)”
But this is pretty vague and doesn’t seem to deal with the converter’s use in relation to a linear workspace. Hope someone can shed some light on this!

Thanks for the replies.
Richard, I chose the Duet’s breakout box due to its expanded I/O options over the stock breakout cable. But in general, I want to prioritize the accuracy of the sound over the expandability of the options, so I’m happy to stick with the stock breakout cable using a TS 1/4 Phone to RCA if it will have a more accurate and less degraded result. But if it simply achieves the same result, I would rather pay a little extra to have the same sound quality and the expandability of the breakout box.
So I guess it comes down to, is XLR to RCA any better/worse than TS 1/4 to RCA? And that probably should have been my original question. And, as always, you’re right, gold plating is so often a throw-away…

March 26, 2012 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Dynamic Link to After Effects Project File is importing wrong fileYes, the statement “Premiere Pro can only dynamic link to one project at a time” is false. The project I’m working on for instance is DLing with 7 AE projects.
But, there’s a tangential issue in the way Pr is DLing with iterative projects. Six of the DLs work fine, but the one that has been connected to multiple iterations of the same project is disrupted, and this is the problem I’m trying to solve.
Could it be drawing from the wrong cache files? I’m working on the issue now and if I find the solution I’ll follow up. I have a feeling it’s something less technical, and something to do with my method.

Hey Angie,
I wish that was it, but I’m currently working with adaptive resolution – open gl off.
It usually occurs when the camera is close to the 3d floor layer beneath it, looking upward at ~ 2 degree angle. Under those conditions, the layer handle where the floor meets the horizon cuts across the composition viewer, superimposed over everything else.
Thanks for all the help, here.

Thanks, Ben. I’ll have to check out this one and the others that are similar. Do you have any personal experience with any of them? How do you handle the issue? Or do you find the manual route is easier than dealing with the scripts?

Well. I feel stupid. Got the answer. 100 mbps = ~12.5 MB/s
1 megabit = 0.125 megabyte
