Tried that. t just seems to hang forever. I’ve bitten the bullet, removed the RAID and am re-installing OSX. I’ll post how I (gulp) get on.

Tried pulling the RAID card. But I’m going to try that again. With the padlock, I was checking sharing access in Disk Info so my Windows 7 could acces the Mac on the network. I must have done something then as the permissions access came up as “Custom”.

But now the Mac won’t even boot so the padlock is the lesser problem.

Yes, I’m saying skip CS4 and go to CS5. Sometimes I have to reboot the Mac when switching from PPro to FCP. I think that is becasue of the AJA driver. (The image to external SDI appears upside down!)

There is the issuse of having multiple versions of plugins. I use Magic Bullet on both Win7 and OSX, plus I have Boris Comtinuum for Mac.

I’m atually starting all new jobs on CS5 and fisnishing the older jobs on FCP. I use the Aja Kona LHe in the Mac Pro and a Blacjmagic HD Extreme in the PC. The AJA seems to work better in the Mac. And the Aja beta drivers for CS5/Mac are very solid.

My basic overview: CS5 is faster to operate (in a keyboard/mouse sense) than Final Cut Pro. And the Titler is ten years ahead of FCP.

I switched to FCP late last year with CS4/WIN, but have (courtesy of the beta program) been able to use the full version CS5 on my 8-core Mac Pro. It is definitely network-ready, very stable and so quick. The Titler kills the built-in Final Cut alternative and the integration with PS and AE is great.

I think I have the best of both worlds now. By using the Mac platform, I can use both CS5 and FCP whenever it suits a specific purpose. CS4 was a disaster but this time Adobe have truly produced something great.

Did you see the LM-1770W or the 1760? They use different backlights which must impact the image in some way that differentiates them.

Yes, they’ve been looking at it, but I don’t think they have a tape Varicam there. The camera is out getting a new VF gadgets handle fitted but I will try again on Thursday and keep plugging away at it.

I’m definitely getting audio recorded on the Nano. It’s just out of sync. If I record the same HD-SDI signal into Final Cut with an AJA Kona set to VFR, the sound is recorded in sync at 25P/60Hz.

Just a note for 50Hz Varicam users in PAL countries. I’ve been testing the Nano extensively with a Varicam H-series, and my conclusion is that the audio will not sync up in 25P mode on the Varicam. This is becasue of the constant 60Hz/60fps Varicam recording in which the Nanoflash can’t pick up the corrected audio when recording in 25fps Crank mode. The pictures look fine but the sound is out of sync.

Also, I think it is due to the 60fps thing, but T/C triggering the Nano in 25P mode leads to a two-second delay before recording starts on the CF cards (I’m using Sandisk Extreme 64gb 90mbs cards in case someone thinks it’s the cards causing this).

I still really like the Nano and will use it on other cameras. If anyone has a workaround for PAL/50Hz/25P AJ-HDC27 filming, I would love to hear it.
