4. Clip usage info…
I think this corresponds to the fact that the bins does not really know what´s in the timeline and what is not. If you drop a clip on the timeline directly from finder it won´t put the clip in the bin.
This is very strange to me. I think that the bin is what should keep track of everything in the project, like most other editing systems.
Even Motion does this in its media panel, everything that are used in the motion project is represented here.Peter Brauner

A good thing to do is to check the creation and modified timestamp of the files that you think has got altered, and compare those with some of the files that is still unaltered. Very easy to do in Finder. Just mark the file and press cmd+i or right click on the file and choose “show info”. There you can read exactly when the file was created and it was supposedly modified.
This will not help you to restore your originals but will indeed show if you missed checking this particular reel. And if they has not got modified since the Davinci wrote the originals to the drive you know that it has not been a fault from either you or your software and you may force the transfer house to get you new originals for free.
Good luck!

One should also know that the server runs on both Mac and Windows. The clients may be osx, windows and/or linux and MetaLAN will convert the file system in realtime for the respective platform and there for get SAN performance with for example a windows server and osx clients. Too bad though that the server can´t be run on linux.
Having a e-mail conversation with David Pollock right now and I asked him a few questions about server platform. I have built a very, VERY lowcost windows XP Dell server and a rocketraid driven redundant storage. This is my intention to use as a server with MetaLan. Intel dual port NIC for around $200 (also available as quad port for $420). HP Switches with full 802.3ad (link aggregation) support. I post the Q&A I having with David:
Me: I think I got it right that I can run the server from Windows XP Pro and it does not have to be a server os, correct?
David: Correct, does not need a server OS.
Me: Will there be any performance issues having the server on Windows instead of Mac OSX?
David: There should be virtually no difference between the two.
Me: Last question and maybe a little harder to answer, if I run the MetaLAN Server on a Windows OS, can the MetaLAN be used as a SAN for Final Cut Server or do I need the Mac OSX version of MetaLAN Server for that?
David: Good question. As far as we know, this should work as Final Cut Server does not seem too picky on the file system per say.  However, Final Cut Server must run on a Mac Leopard Server OS (Final Cut Server clients do not need Server OS).Âcheers!

April 2, 2008 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Dell 24″ for SD? Bob Zelin will think I’m crazy…If you want to use a LCD as a productionmonitor for SD material, make sure you dont uprez in tha monitor. Let your Kona/Decklink/MXO do that and you will be better off.
This solution is not as good as CRT but better than push in a SD component into a Dell LCD.

[Lance Bachelder] “Another option would be to put 2 port Small Tree cards in Macs that need more bandwidth – dedicated cards are supposed to outperform built-in ports but I haven’t tested that yet.”
Another tip on that solution:
As of Mac OS X 10.4 server you can trunk the dual ethernetports that is built in to the Mac Pros and I think some of the later G5. I know the feature is available in 10.5 client aswell but i´m not really sure if it is server exlusive on 10.4. MetaLAN is not yet ready for Leopard but they state that they are working on it and will have an update in the next few weeks.
Very easy to set up and is compliant with 802.3ad. I guess this solution woun´t bring you all the way up to a dualport Small Tree adapter but pretty close.Google on the subject if you want to check it out.

I use the Focusrite Saffire as a soundcard. It has 8 outputs and therfore good to go for up to 7.1 surround. There is a bunch of others out there aswell like Motu.
I hvan´t set it up myself here at our shop, but I think it is just a matter of setting up the audio outputs in system preferences. As long as you don´t plan on mix 5.1 inside of fcp, which just dont have the tools for doing it in a streamlined way, there shoudn´t be a problem.
To remember though, the audio may slip out of sync if you run the video through a decklink or aja card since there may be a frame or two of delay in them. I know Intensity Pro have some delay.

OK. Thank you both for you responses.
Is there a way to do this? Say with one Intensity and Intensity Pro at the same time in the computer. Can they run independt from each other?
cheers!

I also defend the BR-3000E. Had it for 2 years without any troubles. Had some strange issues though when the device were new like clogged head but a few runs with a cleaningtape and there haven
