I was reading an article on this site posted by a gentleman Jim Harvey regarding problems he was having with the JVC-BR-DV3000 mini DV deck. I am experiencing one of the same problems. I purchased 7 decks in Jan 2005 for my cable access studios automated playback system. They were finally installed in March 2005. Two months later I notice after only a short time of use I was getting an error message displayed head cleaning required. Sometimes you wouldn’t see video at all. The decks don’t have more that 20 hours on them. They were sent back to JVC for repair. The repair invoice said clogged video heads, error rate adjustment. I am still having the same problems with the deck. The sales rep. at JVC can’t explain. He said that JVC may have to give me a refund. Has anyone had the same problems? any suggestions? Who else makes mini DV decks besides Panasonic and JVC

[Cableaccess] “Who else makes mini DV decks besides Panasonic and JVC”

Sony. The DSR series plays and records MiniDV and DVCAM. I’ve never heard a good thing about JVC decks from anyone who owned them and pretty much got the same experience as you describe, they started breaking down quickly. I’m sure some folks out there have great experience with them, but I would never put one in my shop. I run the DSR-11 and it’s been running over two years with no hiccups. I send it in once a year for a head cleaning.

Had exactly the same problem that you have. My deck is in service right now. Broke down two months after purchase with about 50-60 hours on the head. Jittery image like the head was gone. Cleaning tape did not help.

The JVC professional support is a joke too. Doesn’t sound too encouraging what I hear from you.

If you send me your email adress to a.ebermann@previewproduction.com I will keep you posted.

In defence of the BR-3000E, I’ve used it for over two years
with no problem. Its handled any tape, MiniDV or DVcam,
that I’ve fed it. Guess I bought lucky and got a good ‘un!!

I also defend the BR-3000E. Had it for 2 years without any troubles. Had some strange issues though when the device were new like clogged head but a few runs with a cleaningtape and there haven

We purchased the JVC deck and had to send it back within a month for service. Turned out the tape transport had gone bad. It’s been fine ever since. The Panasonic 2500 and JVC 3000 are essentially the same decks, made on the same assembly line. I have a Sony DSR-45 that has been rock solid since the day it was installed. Hindsight being what it is, I wouldn’t purchase DV/DVCam decks from anyone other than Sony.

I’m just curious for those of you who have had good luck with the BR-3000, how many did you purchase. Are you using just one deck. I purchased (7) of them for my automated playback system. Only 1 out of the 7 seem to work with out constant cleaning of the heads. Since I’m using these decks to playback programs over the air. They need to be reliable and unfortunately the BR-3000’s that I have purchased have not been reliable.
