PS – I have a slight concern about some of the .cine files which are particularly large (around 18gb). Has anyone experienced problems working with such large .cine files in Davinci?

  • Hi Rob,

Thanks so much for your speedy reply…in answer to your questions:

I’m not entirely sure as I didn’t do the conform, but I assume that this is what they did – they edited the music video in Premiere Pro (shot on both RED and 5D – mostly RED), re-conformed to original rushes at picture lock and then exported out to DPX. Once again, I’m not entirely sure but this is the most likely sceanrio.

So I assume what I am getting is a DPX sequence of the whole music video…in which case, will it come in as one clip and I can use scene detection to break it up?

Also, how does Resolve handle log / linear color spaces? Will it automatically know to use a log cineon curve for DPX or do I have to manually set that?

Also, how do I set up my project settings? I assume the DPX are 2k…so I assume I set my project settings also to 2k…but as it’s DPX, what do I do with fps? Do I only need to worry about this when it comes to export (I need to deliver at Apple Prores 444 25fps)?

Thanks again for any advice – so much appreciated!

    Hey Quintis,

That’s really helpful, thanks very much. Can you tell me what filter you put on the interlaced material in AE? Was it just a standard de-interlace filter?

    Cheers,

  • Thanks Kevin.

Does the same thing apply when editing with Proxies? This is one route we are considering taking…Any pros or cons to editing with proxies? Does the conform / grade workflow work the same way?

  • Walter,

I am following your method, and it’s all working fine. But after I render, the clips appear to be exceeding 100% whites still – any ideas? Have I not done something in the render setting which I should do?

Thanks Rafael. And should that be 8-bit YUV or high precision YUV? This is for a broadcast delivery.

And would you keep the Quicktime Setting Compressor as DV-PAL or change it to uncompressed?

    Thanks for your advice.

  • Cheers Walter, I always appreciate your sound advice on CC.

I’d be curious to know what method you use when applying broadcast safe filters / levels etc for best results in FCP…do you have a good formula for legalizing images?

    Many thanks,
