  • Broadcast safe – filter, levels, RGB limiting and Color

    Hello there,

I have been reading a lot of the archive threads in relation to use of the Broadcast safe filter, RGB limit and Levels and it has answered a lot of my questions in relation to broadcast safe standards.

But I am curious to know – what combination of these filters do people prefer for getting legal limits? And what settings are best for use within these combinations ie: Broadcast Safe set to Very Conservative? / Levels with what tolerance levels? / RGB levels set to 0 – 100 etc?

Also, if you grade in Color with broadcast safe on, do you still need to apply a broadcast safe filter when you send back to FCP?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

No, but even there I recommend coming up with a good combination of Ceiling / Floor and Chroma limit to suit your needs.

Cheers Walter, I always appreciate your sound advice on CC.

I’d be curious to know what method you use when applying broadcast safe filters / levels etc for best results in FCP…do you have a good formula for legalizing images?

    Many thanks,

I didn’t realize it wasn’t turned on until just now. I turned on the blog registration so you can register and be a subscriber.

    Walter,

I am following your method, and it’s all working fine. But after I render, the clips appear to be exceeding 100% whites still – any ideas? Have I not done something in the render setting which I should do?
