hey, i hope u still see this, cause i have a big question on something i found… on an earlier draft i had an acceptable outcome, and the only difference i notice is that instead of prores i used the aic by mistake… isn’t this supposed to be an obsolete codec? how can i choose my settings in prores to make it look like the aic convert? is this possible, or even interesting? should i stick with aic? thank u for your time with all of this, here is a cap of the two clips side by side in image and numbers.

hey!
tried all sorts of different combinations, didn’t know about the frame controls, thanks. it seems like the differences still aren’t enough though, it still looks pixelated. here’s a screen cap of the three best candidates.
is there a way for me to get the quicktime quality in fcp? if it’s not to much to ask, can you please explain why fcp can’t show the same quality as quicktime?

hey tom, chris, john and kevin. thank u all for your feedback. the tip about monitoring and quicktime nicely showing otherwise poor footage in fcp was key.
i used compressor to blow up a regular dv import to 720p resolution. it looked good enough in quicktime to be used for this job, so i just retouched it in color to make a good base track. only in fcp did this turn sour.
i need to turn in 720p, and this colleague had an older footage of exactly what i was in need of. this meant i didn’t have to go on the field to get new footage… i am kind of hoping this can still be solved, do you think it’s possible?
how can i make my footage look as good in fcp as it does in quicktime?
it’s on prores, 720p. is there any setting in fcp that can make this happen?
or any way to recompress the initial dv to make this work?cheers,

the problem persists on an export from fcp regardless of monitoring… if i open the clip using fcp as a simple player the problem is the same, whereas opening this clip with quicktime or color shows it fine! asap will post screens caps, maybe clearer then. thx!

hey chris, thk u 4 helping out.
the clips were digitized on my mac with fcp, adjusted in compressor and then worked in color.
but all and all, the problem is that although they look fine and as expected with quicktime, in fcp they open up pixelated.
i will post samples asap, so that it gets clearer.

hi jeremy, no problem. sorry for the delay, it’s been hectic round here.
here is a sample clip of the xacti hd2000 on the 1080p60 setting, as indicated in the camera.
i am pretty happy with the camera, it only takes a little getting used to holding to get shaking-free footage.

re 1080p60 i think there are some cameras already, but i can confirm that sanyo’s xacti hd2000 does fullhd p60. although it would have been incredibly easier for me if it had the 720p60 setting too… as of now for p60 the option is 1080 with 720 conversion. i have just worked with it once so far, but still at this price point i highly recommend it.

re 1080p conversion i have been trying around and it is not really working for me at this point.
i began by trying the prores, and a 1 min test file originally 180 MB came out weighing 3.2 GB! probably did something less useful with the settings, but not knowing what i decided to try apple’s intermediate codec.
for the aic i tried to convert the 1080p60 to a 720p60. i need the 60 fps, but don’t need more than 720 at this point. everything is looking great, but the aic720p still came out weighing 540 MB!
is this normal? is there a better way for me to make my 1080p60 footage a workable 720p60 project?
