I’m new to this HDV stuff and need to dig in further about audio settings. However, I appreciate the suggestion and will give it a try.

I normally do as you suggest when I have a voice over track in use. I should have mentioned earlier that exporting the timeline as MPEG 2 for DVD does not distort the audio…same goes for encoding in the DivX HD format. Only WMVHD exibits this behaviour. So, your suggestion is simply a work around? Or is this how you must conform in order to use WMVHD?

I’m using an inexpensive ATI X1600XT card ($125) with zero issues. I’m doing all HDV stuff with dual 19″ widescreen monitors…DVI to the main monitor and analog (RGB) to the second monitor for watching the timeline in full screen.

It appears that way. As mentioned earlier in this string, I am installing a RAID controller this week to set up a RAID 0 using two of the new perpendicular Seagate Barracuda drives (320GB x 2), which should increase realtime performance to acceptable levels. Thanks to everyone for feedback and suggestions. I will post again if further issues arise.

I’m using Aspect HD 1440×1080 60i. Files are HDV from a SONY HC-1.

I used a software app called Rextest for testing…the drive is in IDE mode on the MB controller at the moment…will be adding a RAID card next week to take advantage of the higher throughput of SATA II and stripping with an identical drive for this purpose. However, the performance I’ve mentioned with Cineform should still be better than what I’m currently getting, no?

What is puzzling is the fact I get the same performance using PPro 2 in native HDV mode (CPU usage is about 70% max when rendering). So, this makes investing in Aspect HD a waste of money (I am using the trial version at the moment).

Well, I’ve never tried this overclocking stuff before and am naive on the topic. However, after digging into it for the past few weeks I am still bewildered and was just looking for some sage advice regarding how it affects the editing situation. Admittedly, I am inclined to keep things at normal levels and move on. It appears to be more of a Gamer’s scenario than anything else. But, if I hadn’t asked I would not have known.
