    Alex

Within project settings I switched from Mercury Playback Engine (CPU acceleration) to Mercury Playback Engine (software only). Is this what you were suggesting? If so, it corrected my problem with banding. I got my project out the door and now I would like to get to the bottom of this.

What does this mean? Do I have faulty hardware? Any Ideas?

    Thanks for your help.

    Matrox MX02LE
    Windows 7 Profesional – Service Pack 1

    NVidia Quadro 4000

Turned off the mercury hardware accelerator in PP and went to software render and everything looks fine now. Not sure what this means but I got my show out for now.

Just rendered it out as Microsoft AVI, codec set to NONE. Banding still there.

I can see where the render might add some subtle compression banding but what I am experiencing is well beyond that as you can see from the JPG’s that I have attached.

It is a 90min program with many instances of this effect. Bringing everything into AE just to get a clean render and then back into PP is going to kill me for time. Then once the alterations come in it is going to get rediculous.

Is this what the norm is for AE alpha? Or am I dealing with a unique problem?

The same suggestion was made in PP forum.

Certainly an option that I will explore but I am confused as to why the alpha looks perfect on PP timeline in realtime and it only craps out on the render?

I have experimented with everything at its highest bit rate without success.

What I find confusing is why the alpha keys perfectly on my PP timeline in realtime. That would suggest to me that the alpha is good and that something is going wrong in the render. Is this logic flawed?

    Alex

Are you saying this is a known issue?

What I find confusing is the fact that I can lay the effect on my timeline and it previews in real time perfectly without banding. It is only on the render out that it craps out. Why would that be?

Not at my workstation right now but I will upload a cs5 version as soon as I can. Thanks for your interest.

PP allows you to go from 8 bit to 11 bit in the Matrox sequence settings. Does not make a difference.

I also experimented with 8, 16 and 32 bit in AE and no difference.

    I appreciate the suggestions.

Yup, Tried Animation with Alpha and a slew of others with the same result which leads me to believe it is a premiere issue.
